After some study, I realized that this particular art was likely the very first Goodwin concept of what a Terminator should look like.

As with most Jes Goodwin work, his very first stabs at a project are often the best.
I feel that the single model that they made off of this art was altered and compromized too much, and it lost it's umpf!
Well I chose to bring that umpf back, and re-sculpted it according to the artwork Jes first made.

It's a difficult design, and I can tell why the studio and Jes moved on from it, but I felt it something needing to be done.

I'm looking forward to casting a squad up for myself and paining them to go to the field.

Nice work. I'll probably use this as a reference when I get around to fixing the mutilated exo terminator like this that I came across.

Once you get this thing cast, I would send one to Jes Goodwin. Probably get a kick out of it!

Lovely work, and a faithful transition of the artwork.

As an artist myself, I can't see Jes getting too excited about it. For him, his work on the Terminator moved on light years beyond this phase. I sometimes wonder if he sculpted that one so badly just to put it behind him and get Bryan Ansel and co. to look more at the Mark 3a version.

Did you ever manage to get a squad cast and painted?

Yes I cast up ten of them, patched and assembled them, converted one into a sargent figure, and am just now making time to paint them up. I trying to go for some sort of ancient, weathered look. Vaguely Deathwing/Nurgle in appearance, because they are just soooo damn old.

I'm looking forward to playing them as Cataphractii terminators. I think those Heresy rules suite them best.

That is seriously awesome. Be sure to post pics when they're painted.

Those look amazing...but why do I look at them and think Ralph Bakshi's 'Wizards'? ("They've killed Fritz!")

Oh I bet he'd get a kick out of seeing pics of your interpretations at the very least, they look great, very retro. How many pieces were they cast in and what methods were used? Your results look fantastic.
