Yeah it was like 2.70 something for just the Corp captain. I could technically drive up there and pick up but don't feel like it during the holidays.

Just got myself an AT-43 Dotch yaga walker, I've always had my eye on one just because they look so cool!

Also got some Dust Tactics steel guards snipers, I probably can't use them as a proxy for anything in my IG but I had to get them, they just look soooo bad ass.

I would have bought some of that Mantic stuff if I didn't already have 30 marines 10 rangers and 3 weapon teams to add to my IG! Seriously when you have marines mixed in with guardsmen its almost impossible to tell them apart with the same paintjob.

So what is this "Arcane Legions" game? The pre-paints look awful, but its downright free right now? I through one of everything in my cart, and it still came out to less than $100, so i'm curious. A giant mass battle game at that price might be cool.

Any insights?

Probably worth a gamble for some especially if filling in an order to hit the free shipping threshold (but whether you want the lot?)

Reading that thread though, it seems the critical reviewer didn't even understand the concept of the game, and several folks tear him apart as a result.

Eh... I'll take a gamble. I love mini's games and this one sounds semi beer-and-pretzels while I paint up my new Flames of War. ;-)

For six bucks I figured I'd bite on Arcane Legions.

I went ahead and got all those factions booster bricks too. Those seem to be where all the fun weird mythological units are.

If we like it I guess we could spring for a few extra boxes when the next big sale rolls around.

The arcane legion stuff always ends up in Miniature Market's clearance section.

Sad I didn't see any cheap(er) Krosmaster boosters to pick up anywhere.

I couldn't resist, read a little and it sounded fun enough. At those prices, I ended up with something like 600 mediocre little minis, and a simple-fun sounding war-game, for about $100. :-p

Also, tell your prepainted-miniatures gamers that MM has Confrontation on the cheap. The paint job of a Starter Set I own is sorta better than HeroScape but not better than an "experienced newbie".

In most cases the stuff that is put on sale is not really the stuff you want. For example, the big box stores have sales on PS3. This would be fine if it were 2006. But in 2013 we are looking for other things. It is very much the same in miniature land. The vast majority of stuff that is on sale are dead or unpopular games. One big store had AT 43 stuff. If that is what you are looking for, then great.

This being said, I saw a handful of deals on Warmachine, Malifaux, and Infinity. Most were gone soon after they were posted.

To be fair... I did call a friend who had happened to own/play Arcane Legions, and I immediately felt justified in an impulse purchase.

A friend and I, and the wife threw a total of $120 at the game, and have hundreds of half-way decent little minis, and by all accounts, a very fun, medium-weight little game that scratches a mass-battles itch. For essentially a night at the movies and dinner, we'll have a fun game-night, and some laughs perhaps... maybe even discover an under-appreciated game.

That's basically it. Red Blok units command a higher than retail resale value. And Oni units are almost worth their weight in gold.

Doubtful? Possibly on specific items, I thought I saw a few sale up several posts that had specific GW boxes at what looked like better than 1/4 discount, but I'm somewhat unfamiliar with their prices these days.
