Hi all, after a break of about 18 months I'm contemplating getting my eldar out of storage.

The big question for me though is what's an effective list? I've got the new codex but as most people I used to play have drifted to other games, I'm a little unsure if the list I'll be taking will be the knife to the proverbial gunfight.

So I thought I'd post a list if what I have and see if anyone had an idea.

Would prefer no allied forces as I'm old school like that

So the list is
Eldrad
2 farseers
7 warlocks
2 autarchs (1 foot 1 bike)
6 Banshees
12 fire dragons
10 striking scorpions
20 wraithguard (old metal)
20 defender guardians and 2 platforms
10 storm guardians
25 Dire Avengers
9 guardian jet bikes
10 warp spiders
4 vyper jet bikes
1 flyer (don't remember which one!)
4 fire prisms
3 falcons
2 wraith lords
4 wave serpents

3 hornets
1 warp hunter
6 shadow spectres

Autarch with fusion gun

10 dragons in Serpent with vectored engines

3 x 5 avengers in Serpent with TL scatters, cannon and holo fields

3 x 3 man jetbikes

10 spiders

3 vypers with bright lances

Fire prism with holo fields

Should be a gun to a gunfight, you can dish out a tonne of damage though I'll be corrected shortly on what is a little more optimal.

nope. This is just overkill. you only need 5 to kill basically any tank in the game, so taking anymore is just a waste.

as to the OP, you have a ton of great units, but heres what to stay away from and what to stick to.

stay away from....
most cc units, they arent competitive as much in 6th. banshees being prime target to stay away from.
falcons. everything they can do, wave serpents can do better, and for cheaper.
the other flier besides the crimson hunter.
Eldrad

keeps...
basically everything else you can make a great list out of.

Amazing units that are great and broken
wave serpents
warp spiders
hornets

and there you have it.
you should be able to make a competitive list fairly easy with all of your models.
mech eldar is the way to go in the new dex.

Oh, that's why my 5 died at the hands of the dreadknight last week . Fair point though if you only tank hunt with them but I use 10 to roast most units in the game.

Don't do it. WG is heavily overpriced for what it can achieve. Five Fire Dragons in a Serpent can usually get the job done just as in the former edition.

Agreed!

Wraithguard was only a better option instead of 10 dragons...in my opinion.

If my math is right it comes to 1740 and is a strong list
and gives 10 points where ever.

Okay, for a 1750 list. The big problem I see is no GOOD heavy support choices, and a lack of Warp Spiders.

My personal money saving recommendation is to run the 2 Wraithlords as Wraithknights to see if you like them, or proxy 3-6 War Walkers. Those I find to be the most effecient heavy slots in the codex, and should be the backbone of heavy. You also need to fill out your FA slots, since those are probably actually more key than HS now. also as for serpents, for a competitive game, don't take more than 3 MAX (i usually feel that 2 is the right number). They are a transport though, and I tend to favor 10x guardians in them due to cheaper for more dakka, and the disadvantage is losing range on the DA's but since you're in the serpent, the lost 6" is somewhat negligable.

Take 2-4 squads of Jetbikes. I personally run 3x3. When you run a psycher, run them with a Mantle on Jetbike, because nothing else is durable/useful enough to make keeping it in a unit/vehicle worthwhile. You need it out in the open to support, but eldar units get blasted off the table every turn.

If you go the autarch route, you have a few options in terms of being able to hit him with a Mantle and Bike again, or to arm with fusion gun and a Warp jump generator and have him run with spiders.

IGNORE ELITES!!!! (seriously though, the only thing worth even considering is Wraithguard, but that is only for specific strategies/lists, and usually with D-Flamers).

Check out my blog for the list I have had sucess with, also check out the guy who won FoB with pure eldar.

Another thing to consider is Nightspinners with Crystal targeting matrix: move 12" + 18" boost + Torrent Flamer = a metric F-ton of dead guys behind an aegis waiting to be a gunline. Also has barrage, etc. But not the main HS go to unit. Used to supplement heavy lifters, because of its versatility. HS is most efficiently used as anti-AV 14, while FA and troops used to murder anything that is not that, due to psuedo rending and mobility.
