Guys, I cannot understand the assault rules. If a model is base to base with a model that is base to base a enemy model, can all models attacks?

There's the '2" behind' rule, meaning a lot of the models can attack. They' don't have to base-to-base, just close enough to those that are...

1) Put this in YMDC, as the sticky a tth etop of the thread states...
2) For a model to attack, it has to EITHER
a) be in base to base with an enemy model; OR
b) be within 2" of a member of THEIR unit that is THEMSELVES in base contact with an enemy model.

What if the model is 2 inch away from a model that is two inch away from a model that is base to base with the enemy?

Then that model doesn't get to attack (the furthest right of the models in your image). But remember that a model will Pile-In (3" move) before this distance is checked.

At their Initiative. If the combat continues (ATSKNF and/or the enemy passed their Morale test to Fall Back), another Pile In happens, at the end of the Fight sub-phase.

Do you own the rulebook? This is fairly clearly spelled out in it. If not, we're not supposed to be a substitute.

I own the rulebook I bought on eBay but some of the pages are teared out and some pages teared out feature the assault phrase. I am planning to get a new one by next month.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Sorry to hear that.

Basically, count down through the initiative steps, starting at 10 and skipping any steps where no model involved has that initiative. Any model with that initiative who isn't already in base to base with an enemy gets to move 3" into contact with an enemy. That's a Pile In. It represents that whilst fighting is going on, everyone who isn't currently fighting is rushing up to help. If a model can't make it into base to base with an enemy, they try to move within 2" of a one of their unit who is in base to base contact. Any models who can't do either, just move as close as they can to the enemy. So basically, when it gets to some models' initiative, the models do their best to get involved.

Now, carrying on within that initiative stage, any model with that initiative who is "Engaged" with the enemy, gets to fight. It's engaged if it is (a) base to base contact with an enemy or (b) within 2" of a friendly model who is. That represents them helping out, shooting short-range pistols, the general jostling around during melee, etc. Any model who isn't any of these things can't fight.

At the end of all that, you go to the next initiative step. So there can be multiple "Pile In" moves in a single combat if different units / models have different initiative values.

In your photo, if that model hasn't piled in yet, then they'll get to Pile In before their actual attacks and thus end up in range to attack.

What is best in life?
To wound enemy units, see them driven from the table, and hear the lamentations of their player.
