Tough kick for an NFL kicker. I was shocked they even attempted it at the college level. It was actually a really decent attempt. Unfortunately for Alabama it was horribly covered.

I think this sums up quite a few one-loss teams right now:
I'm sure that there are a lot of fans that are happy about the good news. Now that a 1-loss team will play in the Championship game the door has opened for quite a few teams. A few upsets next week and there is no telling who will make it to tbe big game.
I'm rooting for Oklahoma State, and I know that the odds are not exactly in our favor in this scenario, but there is a small opportunity that we might make it. It certainly makes our Bedlam game next week that much more crazy.

Auburn is seriously the luckiest team in the NCAA. That return, plus their miracle volleyball TD from the Georgia game has kept them at one loss when really they probably should have three. Too bad FSU and Ohio State are likely 1 and 2, despite all of that luck on Auburn's part.
I'm going to be watching Ohio's game against Michigan State with great interest. Frankly, I'd give the game even odds, if not favor Michigan State. Ohio has been playing fairly weak competition, the only team worth talking about on their schedule thus far is Wisconsin. Michigan State's defense could give them fits.
If Ohio loses, then it's basically the winner of the SEC Championship in the title game, unless it's a total joke of a game with both teams looking terrible. Then it'll probably still be SEC vs. FSU, except it'll be Bama. I don't think Oklahoma State stands much of a chance, unfortunately. Clemson would have had a decent shot IF they'd soundly beaten South Carolina, except that didn't happen.
Baylor has to be punching themselves right now. If they'd won against OSU, they'd be #2 tomorrow and a shoe in for the NC.

Trying for a 57-yard field goal was incredibly optimistic. It wouldn't have been stupid, however, if they'd bothered to prepare for the possibility of a return.

Except you have to have won your Conference to be allowed in the championship game. So no, it can't be Alabama or Clemson.

Hmm, I didn't know that, I had thought it was simply the top 2 teams in the final BCS ranking. I know Conference Champions get at-large bids, but I thought there was kind of a loophole for the #1 and #2 spots.

No, that's wrong. LSU and Alabama played each other in the BCS Championship in 2011, and they were both members of the SEC. The rules may have changed, but I cannot find a singleBCS rule which requires a team to win its conference in order to be play in the BCS Championship.
The rule you might be thinking of is the one which prevents more than 2 teams, from a given conference, being selected to the BCS Bowl Series.

I could have sworn they changed the rule after the snore fest from 2011, and one of the color analysts alluded to it yesterday. But youre right. I cant find anything verifying it either. Hmmmmmmm.

Yeah, though they closed that loophole, but like dogma said it doesnt appear to have been inked on paper.

You'll likely get FSU, if you get past Michigan state this weekend. The SEC beat each other up this year. That will be a tough pair of games to play consecutively. They'll have to play a lot better than they did against a 5 loss Michigan team, but best of luck!

Currently set to play against FSU, and I think OSU can handle Michigan State. I do agree that they will have to play better than they did against the Wolverines, but I chalk that up to Michigan wanting to topple the undefeated record of their rivals. OSU is just another Big10 school to MSU.

This article on ESPN seems imply that non-conference champs can make it in. Not sure what to believe anymore.

By consecutive you mean months and months apart. I hate that about the National Championship, the team have to sit like a month to play.....it give teams time to rest up and heal, but it also gives them time to get lazy and out of practice.

MSU's D is really scary this year though, completely shut down UM's offence which OSU failed to do, Braxton Miller has been impressive but I think he meets his match against that Spartan D

Yeah, I don't know what the Vegas odds are on that match, but I'd be willing to put money down on MSU pulling off the upset. Their defense has been crazy good.
Ohio State should be favored, but this is a darn close matchup.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Reuters) - Police in Alabama said they are investigating whether a deadly shooting involving two University of Alabama fans after the school's top-ranked football team lost in dramatic fashion on Saturday was linked to the game.
Adrian Laroze Briskey, 28, is charged with murder after police say she shot and killed a mother of three at a party both women attended in Hoover, Alabama, to watch the Iron Bowl between in-state rivals Alabama and Auburn University.
An argument that began in an apartment spilled into the parking lot, Hoover Police Captain Jim Coker said. Police said Briskey fired a gun, hitting and killing 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd, a caseworker for at-risk youth.
Police were working to confirm what led to the shooting involving the two Birmingham women and whether emotions about one of the biggest rivalries in college football played a role, Coker said.
"The fact is that it was an Iron Bowl party when this happened, so we have to look at that," he said.
Briskey was released from jail after posting $75,000 bail on Monday and is due in court for a hearing on January 8. Court records did not indicate she had an attorney.
Neketa Shepherd told Al.com that Briskey grew angry when Shepherd and her sister Michelle were joking around after an Auburn player caught a missed field goal and ran more than 100 yards for a winning touchdown on the last play of the game.
Auburn won the game 34-28 over the defending national champions.
"She was saying she was going to beat us up," Neketa Shepherd told the news website. "Somebody was saying, 'They don't care about Alabama.'"
Neketa Shepherd could not be reached by Reuters on Tuesday for comment.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A woman charged with killing a fellow Alabama fan after the end of last weekend's Iron Bowl was angry that the victim and others didn't seem upset over the Crimson Tide's loss to archrival Auburn, said the sister of the slain woman.
Adrian Laroze Briskey, 28, was charged Monday with murder in the killing of 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd. Briskey, of Birmingham, was released Tuesday on $75,000 bond. She didn't return a message seeking comment.
Hoover police Capt. Jim Coker said both Birmingham women were Alabama fans and at the same party for the annual game between intrastate rivals. With no time left on the clock, Auburn returned a missed Crimson Tide field goal more than 100 yards for a 34-28 victory, dashing any hopes of Alabama playing for a third straight national championship.
The victim's sister, Neketa Shepherd, said she witnessed the killing and had no doubt it was about football, even though it was unclear to investigators whether the violence was motivated by the game.
"That's one of the things we are investigating," Coker said Monday.
Neketa Shepherd said Briskey flew into a rage when she saw the sisters and others joking that the Crimson Tide's loss wasn't as bad as if the NBA's Miami Heat had lost a game.
"She said we weren't real Alabama fans because it didn't bother us that they lost. And then she started shooting," Shepherd told The Associated Press.
Shepherd said she and her sister were invited to the party by a mutual friend who also invited Briskey. About two dozen people were on hand.
Shepherd, the mother of three, was shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover and the women did not know each other before the party, Coker said.
Court records were not available to show whether Briskey has a lawyer. She has only had a couple of speeding tickets in the past, records show.
Coker said alcohol might have been involved, but investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to make a determination.
Shepherd said Briskey drank multiple shots of liquor during the game and "went crazy" when she heard people joking after Alabama lost.
"It was over a football game," said Shepherd. "I'm never going to forget it because she died in my arms."
