Here's a new Kickstarter for a very cool looking skirmish game:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/90338382/twelve-elements-of-war

Fantasy skirmish with highly detailed resin models. More importantly, the rules are campaign focused!

Definitely has a retro-feel to it. Reminds me of when playing was only about having fun, as opposed to now when most systems seem designed for tournament play.

Some examples:

Update:
The stretch goals have now been re-worked. When each faction is unlocked, many of the pledges grant a free figure from that faction.

It looks like it has picked about a bit of momentum now that it's funded.

Very nice looking concepts - it is on my watch list now, thanks!

$1,000,000 and a 50% discount

Certainly interesting, especially the greater focus on faction-specific aesthetic over race-based aesthetic.

Whilst I would love to support an Aussie made game (and in Sydney no less), the best price for models is still $10 a pop, though this may improve with time and stretch goals, it's still somewhat prohibitive if you're just in it for the minis.

I'll keep an eye on it though.

I believe $10 bucks a resin mini to help a new game come to life is a pretty good deal. At least with resin, you have a pretty good idea of what you are going to get. I get nervous pledging for cheaper (plastic/restic/whatever) models. And the business model for a game like this is why GW got out of this market - you only need a handful of models to play.

Looks like this one is well on it's way to getting funded. It will be great to see some of the other factions to get unlocked, but I'd also like to see some more distinction between factions.

I agree - I'm OK with $10 per model in resin.

I also agree with the nervous feelings that come with cheaper models - as KoW and Sedition Wars have already burned me, and I have a feeling RK might now as well...

The feel of faction based over race based seems familair to me, especially with the Faun... was their another kickstarter like this recently or did they do some press leading up to the kickstarter launch which I may of seen?

Faction over race seems a lot rarer than it really should be - love it, adds a lot of coolness in my opinion

I love that the pledge levels are just "x number of miniatures of your choice" rather than specific packages or factions.

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

Screw it, Netflix and chill.

they did a small campaign a couple of years ago on indiegogo with a book but got stomped by IP lawyers because the name was similar it was called rune some of the concept art is the same just a bit more refined and that was for metal minis

I'm definitely in for at least a single mini (works out to about 17USD with shipping which is pretty damn fair.) Going to have to wait and see how I behave during December before I can commit to anything larger though.

I like the fact that, unlike every other kickstarter running right now, this one closes in mid January.

I am not really a fantasy player but i like the designs of the sculpts and computer designed stuff.

wasn't aware of that.

Not sure if there old minis from the indiegogo are avialable

but must say that Sword and Board games' revamped game and artwork is far better.

Their rune game just looked like fantasy armor with steampunk elements glued on them.

The current campaign is also for resin minis and frankly they look rather a lot better, too. New sculptor maybe?.

From their Kickstarter update page here
Hi All,

I wish I had a cheerier note for first thing in the morning.

It has become clear to us here at Sword & Board Games, that meeting the high levels of expectations this game has drawn, is going to be very difficult.

The Kickstarter campaign and the interest it has developed, has made clear to us that those who want the game would like it to be more realized than we currently have it, and we are receiving contact from retailers who would like levels of stock which we just cannot provide at this time.

Our intention is to cancel this iteration of the Kickstarter campaign, and get to work on fleshing out the proposed model range to support this game a lot further, so when we return we have a much broader set of goals to allow this game to be more complete as a result of its crowd funding support.

We will be back on Kickstarter in July, and we want to make sure we have learnt from our experiences, taken on board the feedback from the gaming community and will make sure we fully realise the expectations people have for our products.

I hope to have the rulebook available from our website store in the first half of next year.

Make sure you keep up to date with news on our Facebook page and our Website and sign up to our newsletter here: I do apologise and I appreciate the phenomenal support you all have given to the game and myself Thank you all for your understanding. But it's clear that this game deserves the best opportunity to be as complete as it can be.

Thanks and Stay Tuned!

Interesting, if unexpected, news. July seems far away, but is not, and there is hope that this very promising project will have a bright start then.

(Edited to restore the quotation source, that magically disappeared...)

Damn. I have not seen that before. A campaign that got canceleld because people were too enthusiastic for it.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I'm actually more likely to fund this in the future lol. I like that they admitted they were unprepared for the response and cancelled, instead of taking everyone's mony and just trying to wing it.

I wrote that back in December of 2013.

I've since become well aware of how disappointing the Relic Knights minis are looking to turn out...

It's really nice to see these guys back, it seems like they learned a lot from last time and rejiggered their kickstarter appropriately

I asked a question in the kickstarter comments about final model makeup

Will you be able to show us what models pre-assembly will look like?

So that would be this one:

We'll find out soon enough eh.

*sigh* Another one with hueg-scale models. Also slightly misleading, they say 28mm in the blurb, but if you scroll down to the FAQ section the human models will be 35mm. You don't typically judge the scale of your entire range on how big the Dwarves are going to be.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.
