Hi all, I would like some opinions regarding my new DKoK army.

Trenches and mud is all a Krieg army needs, with this advice in mind, I need help because something does not feel right...

Bases are 90% complete and the sandbags need to be painted so keep in mind that they is still WIP

So please feel free to comment, advice, criticise, dislike and in general express yourselves about my work...

Thank you in advance

Hi there, I think what you are feeling is not right is the lack of dirt and debris. Otherwise the abundance of wood panels appears they are on a ship. Your bases look very well done though :-)

I think what you are shooting for is similar to the look of the Dragonforge bases.

Here a guy used the DF bases with a DKoK army. You can see the dirt and debris adds to the "wood look" and appears realistic.

Needs some wet mud or dirt on top of the wooden planks to give it a realistic look. Otherwise very good

Agreed. The broad planks and relatively tight joinery give the sense of solid, if a bit rough, decking or flooring - almost like the models are practicing indoors instead of fighting from trenches. If you really want to convey the gritty trench feel, shave down the planks and gap them, filling the voids with mud. I might even start with the mud, pressing a few planks into the still wet mixture, allowing the squishy mud to rise and ooze where it will (as it would, were you to simply lay some timber down and trample it - duck boards were often a stopgap measure, not "built" structures).

Do some googling to look for images like this one:

I find this really helps me when trying to get the right feel for a mini.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

So it's muddy and dirty then... something like this?? Paint is still wet, and needs some drybrushing

Yes, bubber, I have done some research, but I had hard times fitting the trench "atmosphere" in a 25mm base. Thanks though for the image it's quite inspiring!

I think I give a try at what oadie suggested about replicating the ooze muddy look...

The pitfall for me was that I wanted to show the DKoK dicipline through the perfectly tiled planks... That was a mistake, a more "chaotic" built of the base seems more realistic...

Ok... I started all over following your advice... the result si more muddy and dirty and I also think that I like it better.

The "muddy brown" is warm and contrasts the blue coats of my DKoK

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far...!

Sorry, what exactly do you mean? I think there was a very thin line between the muddy trench and the muddy no-mans-land and one cannot distinguish them clearly...

WAAAAAAAAAGH!!

Bases look pretty good after adjustments. Good job. Keep up the good work. Nice to see someone spending that kind of time on bases.

also, the planks feel too wide...at the scale, they are what...a foot or more wide?

Use sticks that are more narrow, try to find something that is more like narrow coffee stirrers etc.

Also, I agree with everyone else...more mud and dirt.

best of luck!

Yes, I have also noticed that... the next ones will be slightly narrower, actually scale-wise is quite correct, but I also like them less wide (BTW they are coffee stirrers)

Nice video tutorial bubber thanks for the tip...

very good looking plasma effect...it looks really pulsing for once...!

as for the bases... they look rather neat... a bit like polished planks...but from an artesian point of view very good looking!

THX for being polite Vik ... I know that they are not that good but thanks to the feedback from other community members the next ones are far better.

I'll post a familly picture of them soon in order to see the progress (I even tried OSL for the first time). Thanks again for the creative C&C!

well...my sugary tone was aimed to lure you the method of how you got that polished look to the boards... for my own steampunky army I could very well use such a method...
