So I'm bringing IG 750 pts. I am a complete noob to IG but have some experience from tau and space marines These are the units I have:

40/50 guardsmen

1 lord commissar

1 chimera

1 basalisk

1 valkrie/vendetta

10 storm troopers.

Now I want to either bring a mech army or hybrid, not a footslogging guard list. I am willing to make a few purchases but nothing that's massively expensive. Here's a hybrid list I came up with

HQ

CCS /w astropath

Elites

Storm Trooper Squad /w 2 melta guns (goes in the vendetta)

Troops

PCS w/ autocannon

Infantry squad /w autocannon

Infantry Squad /w autocannon

Vet Squad /w 3 melta guns in chimera

Fast Attack

Scout sentinel /w autocannon

Vendetta Gunship

750 points on the nose.

In my local club I will be playing against chaos, orks, necrons, eldar and space marines (If you've seen Chaos Rule's ork list then that's his one he wants to play me with! but don't tell him about this list)

any suggestions are welcome. please reply!

Take the storm troopers out of the vendetta. Let them deep strike and use their doc. that lets you re-roll the scatter dice (or infiltrate with them if that gives you better position.

Take the auto cannon off of your PCS and throw them in your vendetta (as they are scoring and count separately from the rest of your infantry platoon).

Working with the models you have, I would then take the point you saved on that autocannon and put the into lascannons on either your sentinel, or your heavy weapon teams. As you will need the AP 2 against the armies you mentioned.

Additionally, only field the bare minimum number of storm troopers in the squad. In my experience, their job is to drop, blow something up and promptly die. Take those points and throw an heavy weapon into your CCS as they are higher BS than the rest of your army.

so with the advice that you gave me, this is the new list. So my tactics with this list is to sit back in cover and shoot whilst my storm troopers, vendetta and Marbo come in from reserves and blow up vehicles. the vets, sentinel and lascannons in the squads are for defence against TEQ units that may be deep striking

HQ

CCS /w astropath, lascannon and krak grenades (because I had 5 points spare)

Elites

Guardsman Marbo

5 storm troopers w/ 2 meltas (forgot to mention that there were 10 in the squad before including the meltas )

Troops

PCS in vendetta

2 infantry squads with autocannons

Vet squad with 2 meltas in chimera

Fast attack

scout sentinel w/ lascannon

Vendetta Gunship (vanilla)

once again 750 on the nose

Where I play we never play objective games and we only have an hour to play (including set-up time) so games will be short and always kill point. Also can the PCS issue orders from their vendetta? because it's a bit of a bummer if he cant. Also you are too right about the AP 2 weapons. the other day I played a 3-way 500 point game against chaos and Eldar. The Eldar hid behind a boulder the whole game and shot anything that came near it to shreds and the chaos player took typhus and plague zombies. typhus was at the front and with no AP 2 weapons he just soaked up damage with his 2+ armour and FNP.

Also for christmas I'm hoping to get 2 LRBT's, an ADL and an imperial bastion for my army.

If the games are always kill point, sorry to say but as IG you are kind of screwed in that respect. Maybe less so at the lower point levels, but since you have more units, and more points to give out to your opponents, you will likely lose most games.

IG shine in multi-objective games because even though they have "low mobility" they have to ability or capture or contest multiple objectives on the battlefield at once because of how large their unit sizes are and how many units you can take just from how cheap IG units are points wise.

Also scoring units in Vendettas/Valkyires are awesome. Scoring units inside Chimeras are good for going out and securing those objectives, but for those last minute turn five contests, nothing beats troops in Vens/Valks. And people say guard have no mobility. Pffft.

yeah... still I love my guard and even though they may lose a bit I will continue to play them. Also a way to minimise the amount of KPs lost from guard squads that die so easily you could make them a combined squad and they count as one unit. That also means that you don't use up as many orders on stuff like FRFSRF. Also I love IG for their tanks and flyers and generally don't like footslogging guard at all (I just don't have the models/money to make a fully mech army right now) but I am also looking into elysians. Deepstriking guardsmen and flyers all round (sadly no tanks though ) it genrally removes their "low mobility" and they are great in objective games (sadly my meta doesn't play objective games except the occasional capture the relic game). also gives IG more flyers to play around with.

Also what is your opinion on Armoured Company Lists at this points cost because as I said, I love my tanks.

In a kill-points battle? It'd be hilarious, considering with so few models you either will be tabled quickly or they will.
