Here is my first attempt at a Deadzone Stage 3a Mutant. Needs more work on it but it's looking quite promising

Apologies for the lame photo- I'm currently stuck with an iPhone 3GS :(

Thanks- got the glowing eyes idea from Dead Space Necromorphs. They always frighten the **** outta me when they burst out of nowhere (even when I can feel it coming lol). Plus pink doesn't really say alien virus to me..

That is an excellent color scheme I'm a tad jealous, I decided to go with a flesh tone to match some other necro/zombie/techy baddies I've got laying around for an eventual massive combined force. Otherwise I'd so steal your nice flesh color

Hmm difficult choice with the hair colour, are you doing the same colour for every mini? I personally wouldnt go for anything too alien or obscure, I think black hair might be lost with the green and black already on the mini, maybe something like white and grey? Or if you want something really eye catching maybe bright firey orange with black?

I was thinking maybe white/grey myself tbh

And yeah I was thinking of doing this scheme all round. Not sure I'll stick with the same colour clothing though.

Yeah, the hair was one of the reasons why I changed heads on my S3s... I still don't really know what I'll do with that Dr. Simmonds from the Merc set.

For your choice of colours (love the glowing eyes, btw) I'd go with whitish-grey, too. It's a nice contrast to the green tones, whereas most other colours would be either too drab (when using a naturalistic palette) oder too garish (when using primary colours). Black would be to Hulk-y for my tastes - but maybe that's the vibe you're going for.

Oh, and in case anybody's interested - the skin on my Plague was based on a 60/40 mix of Vallejo Dwarf Skin and Vallejo Sombre Grey; highlighted with some more flesh and white added to the base mix (regularly adjusting the grey content - it should never look too fleshy). Shading was done with Ogryn Flesh, Hormagaunt Purple and Asurmen Blue inks - the latter two heavily washed on the extremities. Some Baal Red was used around the sores and near the areas where the bone plates and skin connected. The bone segments are Vallejo Leather Brown (or whatever that Snakebite Leather equivalent is called), highlighted with Citadel Ushabti Bone mixed in.

Many thanks for all the feedback so far chaps/chapesses.

White/grey it is then.

I did - on Page 13.

Right now I'm desperately looking for a decent colour scheme for my rebs. I don't want to browncoat them, but otherwise I'm a bit stumped. I'm tempted to use JaydeeOT's nice blue look for his Reb leader, but after going for blue with the stage 3s' clothes I think it might be overkill. Might be best to occupy myself with some Infinity models or the DZ terrain in the hope of getting a sudden inspiration...

So, I've finally gotten down to finishing my first team - or at least I have a playable bunch of models worth 70+ points with some options: 1 S1, 2 S2, 5 S3 (incl. 1 heavy gun) and 2 dogs. I'll finish the remaining S2 over the weekend and will hopefully get a bag of 3 more S3s, whose feet broke off at the ankle during delivery.

So off we go -

Again my S1, this time a slightly better picture and joined by his dogs:

The S2s. Their original heads were pretty muddy as far as details and expression are concerned, so I used a couple of WHFB Ghoul heads which fit pretty nicely. Sorry for the quality but I was utterly unable to get both of them in decent focus...

The S3s - again, I didn't care much about the heads, so more Ghouls. Helps to bring the models together across stages, too. In addition I pretty much dislike their proportions, so I sawed 2-3 mms of restic from their torsos. Looks better, I'd say.

The close combat dudes from another angle.

And the remaining two S3s. I repositioned the right one's arms.

There was a point at which I gave up on cleaning the flash off the models. Maybe "If Mantic can half-arse it, so can I!" is not the most mature of reactions, but I was kinda tired about the casting quality... Still, I'm pretty satisfied with how they turned out and won't have to proxy the Plague with Tyranids anymore. That's a definite plus!

Next stop: Some Inifinity scatter terrain, a handful of Shasvastii and then it'll be the Rebs. Hopefully my mate will have his Marauders finished by then...

Looks pretty good there matey- airbrush job??

**Edit: Maybe something like this? Obviously it'll be mainly the humanoids using this but it might look alright?

right then, I've almost finished the first quarter of my deadzone board, still needs a few more details like weeds, moss and a bit of touching up with the paintbrush but its pretty much finished, I figured I would add a group shot of my painted plague force just so you can get an idea of the size.

I started my rebs with shiny black armor and what would become grey fatigues (yndij and speak so far so no pants or shirts that aren't armor). You could pick an armor color to be consistent and then vary the clothes per model, maybe keeping a common thread between them like all drab or dark, only a range of the same color, etc.

I'm not sure what that leaves for marauders though, probably going for a range of leather-dark brown - brown red skin tones to be different. Black would still look good but I don't want the rebs and marauders to match. I'll be back with pictures sometime after its sorted

you could say that yes, deathwish coffee is my friend, sleep is the enemy and the night is long, next 3 board pieces may take a while to finish though, im waiting for my next batch of casting resin to be delivered so I might be able to get a few more models painted before it arrives.

Hi Guys,

First post here. I've been watching the Beasts of war videos and got excited about Deadzone. Bought the rebs faction starter to see if I like working with the miniatures. I have to say the restic is a pain, but I do enjoy painting the miniatures.
This is my first mini, when I saw this hand-walking lizard I knew I wanted to get started with this one right away. He looks like an angry lizard so I painted him red. I took off the horns; I liked them in the concept art, but on the actual mini I found them distracting. The armor is white, to me the rebels are the heroes of this game, so I wanted the color scheme to reflect that. With light grey buildings I actually think it works as camouflage as well.
All in all red, white and blue are colors outside of my painting comfort zone. I have more affinity with painting browns, yellows and greens, so I'm very pleased with the endresult.

I can't wait to get started with the next miniature.

Nope, just brushwork. And in fact mostly with a Pegasus Size 2. The pictures must be a bit flattering...

Yeah, that's an option - the light blue one in the middle might be the way to go. (The costume pictures are a bit too purplish for my taste, but that's probably a matter of lighting).

@Wrinkledstiltskin: Oooh, that one's nice. Leaving your comfort zone has obviously paid off nicely for you. Can't wait to see the next model.

@wrinkledstiltskin: Nice looking Sorak there. Good job!

@Bomster: Yeah they look great. Think it might be a matter of lighting since it's actually a light blue.

Expect more piccies tomorrow/sunday as I shall be having a Deadzone binge this weekend. Along with the very long paint queue of 40k Dark Angels,Dark Eldar and Necrons (*whew!*). A hobbyist's work is never finished..

ok, these guys aren't 100% finished but i figured they were close enough to post a picture, I had an idea with the two Grogan heavy weapon specialist for the Rebs, when I saw the models I instantly thought that a greyish white skin would be better suited to them than the official brownish ochre shade (it would seem me and Polonius were thinking along the same lines )

Then I was thinking about the distant rumble of cannon fire, the flash of the explosions and the heavy rain of bullets.... So I decided to paint them up using similar colours to Raijin and Fujin the storm gods.

so here are my twin albino Grogan, Raijin and Fujin AKA the Stormbringers.

Pretty badass looking grogans :-D

Did you find you had to reshape the barrel on that assault cannon?

Huh, I'll have to go check my assault cannons. I thought mine were straight, no issue, but if multiple people had problems, it's worth checking out. Those look awesome, by the way!

Started on my enforcers. Sorry, looks like a lot of jpg artifacts on the enforcer. Wanted to go with a cold color scheme, so black wash over the restic and then block painted from Army Painter Uniform Grey back to Army Painter Ash Grey. Paint up nice and fast.

That lighter color scheme makes them look kinda creepy. In a good way. You're supposed to be scared of the enforcers.

Strange, pics are upside down on my ipad.

Anyhow, yeah, I got the same vibe. Usually would have washed the base grey with a grey/black mix to darken it up a bit, but figured to just go with it and see how it came out.

I'd say he looks good as is. You could always look into dipping, once you get the hang of it... pretty useful. Minwax polyshades tudor is what I use on almost everything, it's like a nice dirty black wash.. but I dunno there's something else to it, kind of like it highlights for you a bit too.

Of course, as I said, he looks fine now That was the only thing I could suggest if you were looking for something else, but I don't think it's necessary by any means. My scheme is pretty similar, just several shades darker, but mostly in the same arrangement as yours.

Hey Triple9 I like the white/grey enforcer scheme, it makes the red really stand out and look a bit more hi-tech and menacing, It kind of reminds me of robo-cop and its a paint job I'll seriously consider for mine when I get round to painting them.

Alternatively I was thinking, enforcers.... law enforcers how about a judge dredd inspired paint scheme from the old 2000Ad comics, blue, black, red, green belts and gold trim?
