How was the allies stuff lazy?

I felt it was simple enough to be done easily, without being directly about just chucking models on a table (thats what apocalypse is for)

For one, it breaks the FOC quite bad. Some allies make no sense as allowed. But most of all it makes ridiculous combinations possible.

I have not yet decided if this trend is good or bad, but there is no going back anymore. I dread what formations they come up with next and it will be fun to see how broken combinations player's can come up with.

I don't know where GW's is (likely has to do with models though), but I'm working on one for fun. Thankfully this is a game where people can do things like that.

Big +1, I am really hoping the rumored Chaos supplements a more flushed out and more like 3ed mini dexs with formations, etc.

Honestly though this does help the somewhat beleaguered IoM armies namely; BA and DA. DA ravenwing sure does become more feasible with the addition of the storm wing formation. BA becomes better with cheap scoring bodies from Inq, etc.

The allies chart makes a lot of sense (maybe aside from the Necron Blood Angel thing)

granted the new formations change things a lot, but Im hoping it leads to a lot more thought on theme- if an opponent has a weird ombination of models but can justify it with something sensible then Im all for it (this wont happen, naturally)

Hugely debatable - the fact that Astartes integrate and work better with Xenos than loyal members of the Imperium when Allies of Convenience would have actually suited perfectly the few fluff examples of this happening, rather than many examples of them killing them on sight - although might have reduced sales of Tau I grant.

Black Templers / Sisters debacle

No allies for Tryanids when fluff (genestealer cults for one) says there are....

But as its seems to be have been put together from a commercial rather than narrative sense it makes sense.

I still love the idea but needed to have had a bit more thought if the latter was the (as stated) intention.

Formations is interesting but the choice of units and upgrades seems unfortunate - except if you want to sell lots of them ...............just they could have sold lots of things that are not already selling by making them better..........missed opportunity

I AM A MARINE PLAYER

"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos

"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001

I'm fairly pleased that I can now combine my Sisters with Imperial Guard support and include an Inquisitor without touching Grey Knights..

That in itself is a win.

But as usual the actual implementation is not quite there.

You forget, GW hates chaos and wont use their limited imagination energy to put effort into them.
I would be all over a Dark Mechanicus army. (Or a loyalist mechanicus army. Either way.)

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

They are quite loose with the costs. My wallet does not like it, but I might play a Riptide with 6 missilesides included in my BA. On top of that I have the possibility of fielding 2 Stormtalons. I can put 2 Fragnoughts in pods, along with something else and try to ram my assault squads down the throat of my opponent while supported with Tau in a way I could not do previously.
