Hi all,

I've been ogling over the Eldar codex recently and have fallen in love with the play style of specialist units with very specific jobs, this glass hammer approach they have makes them seem like a really fun army to play, so without further ado, IT'S ELDAR TIME!

Here is the list I've currently got for 1500 point tournaments

HQ
Autarch – Jetbike, Laser Lance, Fusion gun, Mantle

Elites
9 Striking Scorpions + Exarch with SC and crushing blow – In wave serpent with holo-field

4 Fire dragons + Exarch with Fire pike – In wave serpent with holo-field

Troops
10 Guardian defenders, warlock, BL

3 Guardian jetbikes

3 Guardian jetbikes

Fast attack
4 Warp spiders + Exarch TL death spinner

4 Warp spider + Exarch TL death spinner

Crimson Hunter

Heavy support
2 Warwalkers – each with 2 scatter lasers

Total - 1507

The general tactic, which will obviously be slightly altered game on game will be to have the Autarch, guardians jetbikes, and WW deploying initially with the war walkers slowly advancing through cover chewing up infantry, the guardians sitting on an objective while being shrouded by the warlock and in cover, the autarch doing his thing (just harassing things, basically being a massive pain ) and the jetbikes hiding until late game objective capturing, as the guardians will probably die....

The rest of the army, the aspect warriors and the CH will be the reactionary force, killing things to make it easier for the jetbikes to grab objectives at the end of the game while remaining alive.

What I need advice on is the troops. I'm not 100% on the guardians, but at the same time DA just seem too expensive to get a decent sized unit for how squishy they are, I also thought of trading the guardians out for more jetbikes, but with just 1 TL SC per 17 points I can't see them being very good offensively, at least the guardians can pop vehicles with the BL and do some damage assuming anything Does get close enough for them to shoot their SC.

1 more question, do you guys run your scorpians in a wave serpent, or do you just infiltrate them, I'm curious, would the points be better spent somewhere else like more war walkers or another CH?

Cheers,
Rowanthedawg

Executing Exarch

The Twilight Zone

I like the theme your going for, and you have made a pretty nice aspect heavy, yet competitive list.

One thing about the aspects, is that exarchs are usually not needed. I would drop every exarch from your list except the scorpion exarch, which is absolute boss with the claw. On the scorpions, drop crushing blow for monster hunter, it costs less and will usually do better than crushing blow against T6+ targets, as these are usually MC's. As far as a serpent, it is up to you but scorpions can do fine on foot. You could give the serpent to the guardians or any other foot choice. Since you can't assault from the serpent, it is a bit of a waste for the scorpions.

For the price of the guardians and warlock, you could get 10 avengers on foot. They do far better for all round combat, but lack the AT weapon. Your AT is right in the Goldilocks area of just right, and tossing the lance would hurt.

If you keep the guardians, you could swing in a spiritseer over a warlock if you want runes of battle, or a farseer for a stronger leader. Warlocks are somewhat disappointing at Ld8 with 1 wound. I prefer either of the HQ psykers if you can spare the points.

5 man spider teams are fine without exarchs, great for AT and anti elite squads.

For a crimson hunter, you might want an exarch to make sure the job gets done when you need it.

If you need more AT, you can swap your scatter lasers on the walkers for bright lances.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

you NEED scatter lasers on your wave serpents. i dont know if you have them, and just didbnt add them, but trust me that upgrade is essintail. Thats what turns the wave serpent into the meanest tank in the game. also shuiken cannons are nice. how to get points for that? Droping fragons upgrades. You really dont need upgrades on the fire dragons. They will kill whatever you point them at (besides maybe a riptide or wraithknight, but your loadout wont help that either), so getting upgrades is really quite a waste. Run fragons naked, and they are still a very deadly glass cannon.

I've actually had very good experiences with scorpion serpents.

In an infiltrating serpent you can get a turn 2 assault quite easily, turn 3 without a doubt. It ensures they don't die on the walk to small arms fire on turn 1. Then the 3+ and Stealth carries them the rest of the way.

I also usually run a scorpion serpent just stock with dual shuriken cannons as it's usually in the enemy's face and likely to die in comparison to other serpents.

Just off topic thought/question....

does the stealth confer to the serpent if they are inside? cause that would be....op

Just as with conceal, the stealth is attributed to the unit.

The Scorpions and anyone who join them have it. The vehicle is considered a separate unit for most purposes and therefore doesn't benefit.

Yeah, I may well drop the non-SS exarchs, I wish I could give disarming strike to the SS exarch though, that would make him an amazing challenger, even better than he is now.

I may send the points on upgrading scatter lasers on the WS, as suggested. Also, I may swap the WW guns to BL, as that way they can kill vehicals AND elite infantry, as I feel like the troops, SS, and CH(once the vehicals are down) will be able to deal with masses of infantry. also, does anyone know if adding 2 of the same gun to WW counts as 2 seperate guns, or is it just twin linked, because 2 would be sweet

I would drop the fusion gun from the autarch because the WW with lances are better for AT, and the autarch should be killing objective campers.

By dropping all exarchs but the SS one you have 55 points left,
with these you can upgrade warlock to a spirit seer- 35,
and with 20 left but SL for WS-10 and have 15pts left, or
upgrade to spirit seer and buy exarch upgrade for crimson hunter.

If you drop all exarchs but SS and fusion gun from autarch you can
buy SL for WS, upgrade to spirit seer, and exarch for hunter.
