How it going,

Im thinking of starting a hordes army (as long as i can find a good play group), and really like the looks of the gators. I have to rule book and minions book, just have to make the plunge and pick up some models. Any input on the army or hordes in general would be greatly helpful.

Thanks,

Nashole

They have the best infantry (arguably) in all of Hordes in the Gatorman Posse along with some of the most original strategies (flying gator circus and Maelock's Charge, Kill, Revive, Feat).

I own a lot of gators and they are a blast to play. However, to be competitive in tournaments, you will need to use the other side of the minions coin as well (Pigs).

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Yeah, from what I've seen they have about a list, list and a halfs worth of tricks. Not quite the two lists you'd really want.

Bog Trog ambushers are super good as well, they can appear on a table edge, and really wreck enemy support.

I suggest playing Skorne, they can make insanely good usage of Gatorman, even making them better than Gators can using the Taskmaster which keeps them from being knockdown and gives them Tough or +2 Str which is pretty massive

Not to mention the insane Beasts and general support Skorne has

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Skone can do some awesome stuff, and they come with the bonus of being able to fill out all your tournament lists pretty easily. They aren't one of the "top tier" factions that you see all the time at tournaments, but to be honest I think that's more because the best players don't play them at the moment than because the army itself is actually lacking anything. If you just like how the gators look then you can easily stick them in your skorne army and get all the good out of them you would ever want.

Just don't forget to bring your third posse.

Skorne: Running gators better than gators, you just need to poke them a little.

If you are looking for a fun friendly army than sure give gators a go. If you want them incorporated into a competitive full army then use them with Skorne. For starting with the basics I would get the journeyman box, Barnabas, Spitter and Wrastler, add a Snapper for 15, after that Full Posse and a Croak Hunter. Then I suggest a 2nd caster. I recommend Rask, he plays differently than the other gator warlocks with his ranged play, add a unit of ambushers and a swamp horror with him. If you decide to break off into Skorne both the posse and ambushers are nice. The posse works well with every Skorne caster with a task master, if you have 11 points then take them. The ambushers I like with Skorne lists that you want to bunch up the enemy with, I take 2 min units in my Makeda3 lists as she tends to bring The Holy Trinity (Molik Karn, Gladiator and Bronze Back) between those 3 and herself you want the enemy bunched up to maximize the MK/BeatBack effect on feat turn

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
