Wishing I was back at the South Atlantic, closer to ice than the sun

Back to the OP, no Band of Brothers is not racist toward the Brits, it is probably one of the most neutral on the subject of the war. I'd rather watch that than some of the other "factual" war movies that have come out of Hollywood.

Heh. You think this is bad? Just watch Patton

Patton is more of a drama that focuses on the character and it actually begins with the Americans having lost a battle. Shock, horror, I know. This sort of thing is just completely lacking in the Pacific and Band of Brothers. HBO simply refuses to have the heroes lose and when they do in Market Garden; they blame the British. Its just a series of spectacular victories over their enemy which they vanquish like they're space marines.

I can't help but think that this is a troll thread. You're butthurt about a castoff scene in a miniseries from ten years ago?

You called? Just so happens I read a good book about WW1 with a similar theory. Since it seems to be the thing to do I'll sign off with a statement that represents all the worst things about my country (does doing this make me a hipster?)

In America is bullocks. America HurrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Lets face reality. Without the Americans supplying the British with radar, spitfires, and the Black Sheep Squadron you wouldn't have had a chance against the Hitlerites.

Morale had to kept high somehow. The sorry excuses for sheep on mainland Europe just weren't fit for duty, and it was a logistical nightmare to import New Zealand sheep in, especially when the NZ regiments needed them just as much.

We did what we had to do.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

New Zealand. Killer sheep stopped the Japanese invasion in 1927 cold.

When did we do that? I watched Baa Baa Black Sheep every week when I was a child. Don't remember any British in the show. Hmmm, I must have missed an episode.

British is a race now?

Don't waste too much effort. This is a troll thread by someone that wants to be offended.

And no, the British are not a race. They are made up of many races: Black, White, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Gingers.

To be fair there are some definitions of racism that do include both race and ethnicity.

People use the word racism for ethnic groups because they are lazy. That and the word "ethnicist" feels like you're talking with a marble in your mouth.

It has nothing to do with laziness and more to do with the fact that racial and ethnic discrimination has a lot of similarities with each other.

Now, if you really want to make a race issue out of it, it was the Irish Guard that was used in Market Garden.

So maybe HBO was just hating on the Irish.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, someone mentioned earlier that there shouldn't have been Shermans and Churchhills together. The Armored Guards division used both tanks, so they were definitely on the battlefield together in Holland.

Right... OP, for a moment just shut up[. Now go and watch Independence day, Battleship, Battlefield Los Angeles, and any other film like those. Notice that all you see is the Americans saving the world? Exactly.
My theory is that the Americans are trying to make up for their lack of history (they have, what a few centuries worth?) and are trying to do so by inflating their ego by portraying themselves as the untouchable heros and saviours of mankind .
Watch them, and stare at the glaring flaws (the alien ships movement and lack of infantry shooty weapons in Battleship for instance) then think on it. Now stop your butt hurt.

And the real reason that us British folk did so badly in operation Market Garden?

Michael Wittmann. With only three Tiger1's and one PanzerIV he utterly decimated the vanguard of the British army, and slaughtered a good portion of the army that was following up. He was a gifted Tank Commander, and too this day still is the best Tank Ace there has ever been. If the Americans had been hit, then they would have been the ones flattened. It was pure bad luck that he was in the British path. What hope did we have?
So, quit your butthurt. No point in getting sad or angry over this. Calm down, and remember-we have the best damn army in the world.

MoO

@Frazzled-I believe that Radar was a British invention, and Spitfires where a British aircraft. However, the Welsh units where happy for their supply of sheep. The Europe ones where terrible things so I hear.

Did he? Ok, well the Gaurds used Cromwells as well. It seemed they had a mixed bag of armor. Cromwells, Churchills, Sherman V's, Sherman Firefly's.

Honestly though, I don't know if they operated in mixed units. It's possible the show itself just tossed Cromwells in to ensure the viewers knew they were a British unit, instead of confusing them as Americans.

Don't forget the American invention of the Jet Engine, the Cavity Magnetron and proximity tube, the world's best Heavy Bombers, their vital unlocking of the Enigma codes, their generous donation of free destroyers to the Brits, one of history's most selfless acts... and most impressive of all, their exemplary use of traditional Yank self-deprecation.
