On Wednesday night, CNN affiliate KRDO reported that Canon City Schools Superintendent Robin Gooldy met with Hunter's parents. The superintendent then changed Hunter's disciplinary offense from "sexual harassment" to "misconduct."

From the same CNN article:

The mother, who is also a teacher in the school district, said Hunter had tried to kiss her daughter "over and over" without her permission, according to Canon City Daily Record.
"I've had to coach her about what to do when you don't want someone touching you, but they won't stop," Masters-Ownbey told the newspaper.

This is bothersome. Perhaps the sexual harassment charge is a bit much, but it sounds like this boy is really bothering his "crush" and I can completely understand the girl's parent's frustration. Perhaps moving Hunter into another classroom away from the girl would help.

Something's bothering me here. I think it might be the semantics, but something about these phrases doesn't sit well with me.

I read that too. thats why the two suspensions for "misconduct" is more appropriate. Or she could be like my daughter and just cold cock him.

When I was in third grade I pulled my weiner through my zipper and ran around the lunch room chasing the girls and laughing.

I was sent to the principal's office whereupon my mother was called in. My mother then walked me to every class in the school and in tears I had to apologize to everybody one by one for being such a gak.

Later when I got home my dad beat the skin right off my ass.

Needless to say that day's activities were never repeated. And I have no criminal record either. YMMV.

These days, you would be expelled, classed as a sexual offender, vilified in the media, become the subject of an Internet hate campaign, and on top of that, you would still probably be beaten.

"her" is slightly ambiguous (to my mind at the moment) as to whom is being referred to - is it the mother or daughter who has not given permission.
"they" would normally be used as an indiscriminate label if the gender of a person is unknown, or more frequently, if there were multiple people involved.

You're going from third person feminine singular to third person neutral plural. So the "her permission" originally looks like it's the daughter. It's the mother's permission whom the children don't have. Now the they either refers to the boys that like her daughter, or the boy that got in trouble and the daughter. If it's the first, she's got her hands full with the little boys liking her girl. If it's the latter, then her daughter is not only okay with it, she's an active participant in these actions.

Just let the young love blossom! She'll hit the 'boys have cooties' phase soon enough.

Exactly.

I was referring to a previous poster who posted an article that a study posited that spanking your child causes them to lose IQ points.

Disclaimer: I have two boys. They were spanked... but, the last time that happened was when both were about 4 years old. One squig tried to stick a fork (where he got that I still have no idea) in an electrical outlet. o.O Kids...
