I'm not gonna to be playing in any tournaments anytime soon but Iv just started to get back into some war-gaming with a few friends, I'll be playing against a space marine player and either Tyranid / Tau. Possible an Imperial Guard.

This is a total of 1253 points, I was thinking of adding in so Terminators and another group of cultist, or two more solo obliterators I don't know what would be a good choice for my champions in the plasma squads. I leaning towards a power weapon for the champion of the flamer unit.

I'm confused, because your Hell Drake has an Autocannon.
Do you have a specific purpose for that? Because I'm pretty sure the flamer option is part of what makes Hell Drakes near-OP.

There is also no reason not to take Marks for your Lord and Obliterators. They are so cheap and yet add so much.

Obliterators love being Nurgle because as well as being harder to wound, you raise the Instant-Death requirements to S10. Immediately you've just doubled your resistance to Powerfists, Lascannons, Lances etc., which you might notice are the best way to kill Obliterators.

Similarly the Lord likes Nurgle because T6 crosses that wonderful boundary where anti-infantry weaponry becomes pretty awful against him. Alternatively, Tzeentch can stack onto his Sigil for a sweet 3++ save.

Knowing whats coming, I'd take the Black Mace on your lord instead of the lightning claws. With all those attacks one with go through and then so will a bunch of the squad. That will chew through troops faster than anything. I might give the Bikers some toys too (plasma/melta/flamers). I like the idea of terminators or oblits. The terminators I'd equip with combi-melta's to help out with some anti tank. Keep them cheap and cheerful for a suicide squad and they will make their points back for the most part.

As for your champ's combi-flamers are never bad for overwatch or evaporating some squishy troops. I'd don't know how actively your friends avoid close combat, but most of mine just run away as fast as possible (save for the apparently immortal Lone Wolves) and take pot shots, so I rarely spend the points for power weapons as they are generally wasted unless I am taking an infiltration list with Huron.

I whole heartedly agree with MoN on the lord and bikers. T6 is hard to deal with. If the bikers are just extra wounds for the Lord, I'd consider switching them for some spawn. More wounds, and if you are artful about the use of cover, they will last as long or longer, but no guns.

That said, why is it a Black Legion army? You are taking none of the Artefacts, no Chosen and you aren't using the Allies slot. You are simply paying for VotLW on everyone and taking none of the advantages you are entitled to. I would simply use the regular book and gain a little more flexibility with your upgrades, along with a typically more useful lineup of Artefacts.

Well you could run Black legion with out the supplement, as you pointed out he doesn't have anything that limits him to the Supplement other than the perception of the Black Legion only being a supplement.

I'll do some more reading on that, Iv never run with a Helldrake yet but I know my space marine friend will be getting air units so I thought it would be best to snag one.

I'm actually still waiting to receive the new Black legion codex and the 6th edition rule book, been two weeks now since Iv ordered it. I'll deferentially check out Spineshiver, Iv seen the name popping up in other threads alot. From what Iv read Chosen are two expensive and basically a group of terminators can do the same job for cheaper, and with better saves.


Thanks for the input everyone, I'll have to go over my list again, maybe even wait till I get the new codex. I'll have to try out different marks for the lord and see what works best, though I see why MoN for Obliterators I'll definitely throw that on them.

Anything can me made to be effective if you have the tactics and setup to run them. They usually take a few games of trial and error. For example, very few people run mutilators. I have seen them run as deepstriking distractions. If you don't shoot at it/them they tend to eat you. If they die, oh well, they likely protected more than the 55 points you spent to deepstrike them.

Twinkler, you are right about the chosen. U can now take special terminators in the black legion.
