Leman Russ's departure from his legion after the Horus Heresy causght his men by suprise. Id like to think that its because he'd be brooding on the escape and continued existance of his brother Magnus. Did he leave his legion to finish the job he had started, or something else? Russ was a lot of things, but stupid wasnt one of them. He had to have known that Magnus had thrown the fight. LR's legion brakes in to real space, and recieves no resistance. He orbits Prospero and lands on the planet with barely a shot fired. Then for some reason his brother, arguably the smartest of all primarchs decides to face him in hand to hand combat. Second only to the Emperor in psychic power and he wants to freaking arm wrestle Leman Gosh-Darned Russ?!?!

Centuries later I imagine Russ couldnt take it any more. Maybe the idea that Magnus pulled his punches and still got away ate at his warrior pride. What I hope is, Russ realized he had wronged his brother. He'd been manipulated into murdering his brother, thereby making him late to the final battle on Terra. Wearing the mark of kin slayer sat ill with Russ, and he decided to make good on it the only way he knew how. Charge straight into the mother loving pit of hell like a howling madman and kick Tzeentch in his filthy mutant junk, and rescuing his brother from eternal damnation!

PS. I really like the show Supernatural

If this was a hopeful, heroic setting then yeah that's what would happen. Leman Russ would come charging out of the warp with a reformed Magnus in tow to combo-uppercut the chaos gods into submission, the Emperor would wake up, snap his fingers, and suddenly Guilliman would pop out of stasis, the Lion would stop sulking, Vulkan would stop playing hide and seek, and a united Imperium would knock Abaddon back into the warp forever and lollipops for everyone.

Unfortunately this is 40k, grimmest of the dark. Civilization is about to end, humanity is on the brink of being either snuffed out or evolving into something monstrous, and the Emperor's dream of a united Mankind free from fear and destruction is long gone with just a pale mockery of his vision left behind. The best you can hope for in this setting is to die a quick and honorable death.

That is, until GW cranks everything to eleven for their new supplement, Warhammer 50K: Apocalyptic Boogaloo.
Primarchs! Daemon Primarchs! Titans and battle barges and the last stand of the Emperor in the battle for Terra!

I like that idea, would make the character more interesting.

Leman Russ is the barbarian warrior king archetype. After a lifetime of war he grew old on his throne, and as befits his archetype, he decided to wander off into the wild and die fighting. That's all.

^ This right here. Russ was never intended to still be around, still fighting. I'm actually surprised they didn't just put him on a Battle Barge, set it on fire, and fly it into the nearest star.

Russ has never struck me as the fraternal type, at least not in regards to his biological brothers. Plus there's also the fact that he hated Magnus, he wouldn't go off looking for him to say sorry.

Anyone who gives a definitive answer to this question is a liar.

It was just some "oooh mysterious" writing used to further the mystery of where the Primarchs are.

Also, Leman Russ did not hate Magnus.

Very true. Prospero burns set it all up pretty well for me. I know some don't like it, but for me its that, Know No Fear, First Heretic, and Thousand Sons are the best HH books
