Hey all,
recent addition to my armies is Dark Angels. I almost exclusively play Fantasy but with a 2500 point tourney coming up I started gathering my forces and acquired a bunch of DA. One thing I ran across that confused me was that Ravenwing Attack Squadrons have a few oddly worded, to me at least, rules. It says 6 bikes maximum, but does this include the attack bike or does that make it 7? As well, it says you can add a land speeder but does this go on the table or into reserves? I would think since it is added to the unit it would start on the table but wanted to verify if anyone knows. Thanks for the time.

If you're talking about the "Ravenwing Attack Squadron" in the Fast Attack section...then you must not be reading the same rules I'm reading....

The unit starts with:
2 Ravenwing Bikers
1 Ravenwing Sergeant

You may then add "up to three additional Ravenwing Bikers." Nowhere does it say "6 bikes maximum," so I'm not sure where you're getting that from....

You may then include "one Ravenwing Attack Bike." The different name means it's not included in "three additional Ravenwing Bikers."

I don't know about the Speeder. Vehicles are usually their own unit, but it does say, "it [the squadron] may include a single LS."

Maybe I am just reading too much into it but being new and it being a tourney didn't want to mess it up. It says can include up to three additional bikers, I was afraid this meant that the attack bike was a biker as well. I figured the LS was seperate but wanted to as more if LS came in at start of game with unit or from reserve. I assume it starts with unit.

Ravenwing squadrons include 3 units: 3-6 bikes, 0-1 attack bike, 0-1 landspeeder. Each unit operates independently, following the rules fire it's unit type.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

You get the 6 bikes the attack bike and the speeder. But the attack bike and LS dont take a slot on the FOC. And if you take Sammy or azrael they are all troops and scoring

They operate independently? It does say you add it to the squadron. Thanks for all the replies.

Page 47 - Ravenwing Combat Squad tells you they act independently (Although the Speeder still won't score since it's a vehicle).

I think it should be able too. Cuz vehicles can be scoring. Like in big guns never tire an scouring

Big Guns and Scouring have a specific exception, or have you been letting Dedicated Transports for Troops count as scoring too? (DT's count as the slot they were bought for, which is why a Devastator's Rhino scores in Big Guns)

Yes, if they occupy fast attack or heavy. Taking Sammeal means a RAS speeder can never score.

I see. I thought since the attack squadron was considered a troops choice the speeder would be able to score cuz it'll be a troop. But the attack bike does count right

Awesome they are independent. Completely missed that. I hope they are scoring as the more the merrier on that front. They still only count as one unit though so if I had two of these and a unit in a LRC I could only reserve 3 units I assume. Thanks fr all the help.

Sanghelli - no, it is a vehicle so is neither scoring nor denial. In big guns / scouring vehicles can become Scoring, however ONLY if they occupy the right slot. As these speeders are troops, they cannot ever score.

Ishamael - *no*, they are *not* one unit. That is wha tthe rule actually says - they are independent of each other. So a full RAS is up to 4 units (combat squad bikes in 2x3, Speeder, AB) that, if all deployed, let another 4 / 5 units go into reserve.

Absolutely, so you can have a Combat Squadded RAS (6 bikers split into two units of 3) and an attack bike as three scoring units. Just watch out for First Blood!

Awesome. I will likely run one of my 10 man term units as 2 5 man. That will be a better scoring unit. I am worried about the independents as FB targets and may DS in the LS. With teleport homers on bikes not such a concern. Will have to see and likely depend on which map I am on. The tourney has created 3 separate missions of their own design. All are scoring objectives so need the troops. Thanks.

Yea that's the downside to it. Sucks we can't take units of attack bikes

The scenarios only have 3 scoring objectives on 2 of the 3 scenarios and 4 on the other. Don't need that many troops.
