So, Me and a friend are intrested in starting Malifaux, But the only thing i know about it is, You use cards instead of dice. It looks intresting and I'v watched a few videos on youtube, but I was curious of what I should get to start with the game? What booxs and items are recomended to buy first?

Are there any henchman in your area listed? I know they are relatively sparse (I think I'm the only one in NJ).

Either way, this is the starting investment I recommend to players just starting:

Mini rulebook (normal is sold out. Restock in January) -$15 USD
Plastic starter set - $40 - 50 USD
Arsenal Box and Fate Deck for your faction - $18 USD

That's all you need to start. I'd just pick out a faction in which several masters interest you and start from there.

Any further questions?

I'm not sure what you mean about any henchman in my area.. And alright, Mini Rule Book, do you mean the M2E Malifaux Rules Manual? And starter set? You mean the crew boxes? The Arsenal Box is the unit cards for that faction right?

Henchmen are volunteers for Wyrd that promote Malifaux at stores in their area, they're responsible for giving demos, running sanctioned events, etc...

Here is the list of current Henchmen in Sweden:
Cassarus - Gislaved
Daemonchild - Bro
egoon - Stockholm
KML - Kalmar, Smaland
Seregon - Uppsala
Soundwave - Mariestad
Wille - Göteborg

You can find them here:
http://www.malifaux.com/Henchman.php

Their names are links to send them PMs.

And there is the Where to buy Wyrd list:
http://www.wyrd-games.net/content.php?118-where-to-buy-wyrd

You can sort by country (Sweden is an option), and it will say if there is a henchman at that store.

And yes, when he says mini rulebook he means the Rules Manual, Crew boxes are starter boxes

Yeah, one of the rule books (manual or core), a deck of cards per player with jokers (probably eventually a fate deck) and a crew per player are what's necessary.

A few notes:
-the arsenal decks are only completely necessary if you're using 1st edition (metal) models that haven't gotten 2nd edition cards, otherwise you'll eventually get everything except some generic upgrades that also appear in the core book
-there are bad matchups- if you're looking to start with a couple crews to play against each other, it would be worth it to check back here to see if they're going to be roughly balanced.
-if you don't have an established group to learn from, I highly suggest reading through the book once to try to get what's going on, then play a game and re-read it. I find the game doesn't read like it plays, so even an incorrect experience will get you understanding the basic flow enough to understand the rules way better.

Hmm... I have looked arround a bit and I kind of like the looks of the models in the M&SU ASSETS - Kaeris Box Set and the SHOWGIRLS - Colette Box Set from the Arcanists. but.. could someone give some info on the playstyles, Strengths and weaknesses of the diferent factions?

Also, I noticed a couple of crew boxes are multi faction, Like Rail Crew - Mei Feng Box Set says it is Arcanist/Ten Thunders Box Set, How does this work? Can you mix units from diferent factions..?

I can't comment on M2E playstyles as I haven't touched Malifaux since late May, but I still follow enough of the company to help ya out with finding someone near ya that can teach the game

M&SU Assets and Showgirls are both crews coming out in the next wave: the game is still in transition, so you can get the beta rules downloaded. They're behind schedule for printing, but soon will have official downloads (i.e. tourney legal) as a stopgap until the second decks are done.

Showgirls are focused on maneuvering, assists, and objectives (Malifaux is very focused on objectives, where combat isn't necessarily the way to win, though your opponent's guys being dead definitely helps)

M&SU assets is based around applying and taking advantage of fire effects. This style of condition manipulation is a fairly common one in 2nd edition, and takes quite a few forms.

Malifaux has a high number of pieces that work in multiple groups:
-dual faction models can work for either noted faction (Rail Workers, for example, can work for either faction)
-mercenaries can work for other factions, but cost more (most friekorps, for example, are outcasts that can work in other factions)
-there are dual faction masters that can work for either faction. These always either have an ability where they can naturally take models associated with them regardless of faction (Kang is only ten thunders and the Rail Golem is only Arcanists, but Mei feng can take either in either of her factions) or they have upgrade(s) that allow them to (McMourning can take medical ressers when playing guild, or take lawyers and guards when playing ressurrectionist, if you use the appropriate upgrade cards)
-some masters have weird options, such as Marcus, who can take Beasts from any faction

Oh? Do you mean they are getting updated to second edition in the next wave or something such? Because the webshop I normaly use for gaming has both in stock.

Thanks for all the help ^_^

The game is going through a transition to the second edition of rules. Eventually everything's moving to plastic, and everything's getting new rules to go with the new rules set. Metal models are from last edition, plastics are for the new edition though some of the ten thunders stuff (and a few other individual models) came out in plastic prior to the edition switch. If you get the arsenal decks, you'll be covered. The only thing to be worried about is a few models saw base size changes (rasputina's ice golem got bigger, pandora's poltergeist got bigger, maybe some others I'm forgetting).

Hmm.. Looking at it some more, The Thunder - Misaki Box Set looks realy nice too.. So currently the two factions I like the looks of the most is 10 Thunders and Arcanists... It's always so hard picking faction when starting a new game.. XD

I recently started playing and I bought the Arcanists Arsenal Box and the mini 2E Rulebook. I would advise buying the Arsenal Boxes of the factions you are interested in first so then you can buy the miniatures that you want to play with. Sometimes stuff has a really cool model, but it's not very good in the rules. Also, the Arsenal Boxes are very cheap ($8 each), so you could get both the Arcanist and Ten Thunders boxes, and then decide which playstyle you like more.

How are you gentlemen. All your base are belong to us.

All hail the Magic Conch!
