I was just looking at the 3rd edition tau codex and saw this quote that got me thinking.
"I have followed the myriad potential futures of the Tau with great interest. Though barley even striplings compared to us, I feel a strange protectiveness towards them. In time I believe they will exceed even our greatest feats and master the darkness within their souls."
Eldrad Ulthran, Farseer of the Ulthwé Craftworld

What do the eldar think of the tau?
I think there is a lot of evidence that the eldar do not feel any particular hate for that tau. There is also the fact that tau have a very small psychic presence and there are no actual known occurrence of deamons possessing tau (with the possible exception of the firewarrior book, but that fluff is questionable at best, and even then it is one greater daemon managing to make a single trooper who has never fought before angry). This means that they can't really help chaos in any way, and would probably be a valuable enemy against chaos. Tau are also not as primitive and barbaric as much of humanity is.

I would like to know your opinion on the subject.

The Eldar like the Tau, and are protective of them. This is one reason why they ally together nicely.

And, yes, the Tau are not the donkeycaves Humanity is.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Why is it humanity always has to be the biggest donkey-caves in their home fiction?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
To actually answer the question the Eldar are strangely respectful to the Tau and incredibly protective of them.

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

Thanks!

When I think about it the only known tau-eldar confrontation would be the destruction of a maiden world by tau forces mentioned in the timeline (I'm still not quite sure how that works. Did they actually destroy the plant or is it some sort of semantics thing, like it is destroyed in the eyes of elder, defiled or so on).

The Tau were chasing down some Dark Eldar, who led the Tau fleet to the Maiden World. Thinking that was were the DE came from, the Tau kinda killed the planet.....

I don't think the Eldar like the Tau. I don't think the Eldar like anyone besides the Eldar.

This a hundred times. And I doubt the Eldar would like the Tau now that their empire is growing bigger everyday.

The Dakr Eldar think they are amusing new prey / genetic stock / torture toys.

The Exodites will only care if they tresspass

The Craftworld Eldar will vary - some will see them as tools to fling at their enemies - others as merely another upstart race to be put down or enslaved in due course...........a few Eldar may look fondly on them as they would a puppy who has is now house trained

The Eldar consider no other race their equals - think Lokl in Marvel films......

I agree with Mr Morden 100%. Loki made me think of Eldar too:

"There are no men like me."

Well, except for that leering eight foot tall posthuman able to smash you to pieces, the seven-ten foot tall Ork Boy capable of physically ripping you in two, the immortal necron warrior, any of those Tyranids clustered over there, or even that mutant human.

Eldar reply

Perhaps they are my match in mere physical strength but my interlect is such that they shall enegage with my only at a place and time of my choosing and wast their strengths, such as they are, in battles against each other.

If they are worthy I will then honour them and dispatch them myself.................

Aaaaaand then the Chaos Astartes slaughters its opponents and adds the Eldar's skull to its collection.

You have a pretty big mouth for a dying race driven to extinction by their own actions.
