Subject: Tau Kill Team - 200 Point.

I just got the new semi-book for Kill Team, and immidiatly made myself a team.
Crisis Shas'vre with Ornager Gauntlet, Flamer and Vectored Thrusters - Leader.
9 Fire Warriors with Pulse Rifles.
1 Spec. FW with Haywire.
1 Spec. FW with Stealth.
1 Spec. FW with Fearless.
Piranha with Burst Cannon and Sensor Spines.
Can this work out alright? I don't know how this fares on the battlefield, and I am completly new to Kill Team in general, so I have very little experience altogether, so I really need some help with this one!

Pretty good, Haywire on a specialist was a good idea. Stealth and fearless, maybe not so much. Tau focus heavily on damage, making up for defensive weakness with special abilities is viable.
But I would prefer more aggressive rules myself, preferred enemy or Fleshbane, Shred, Poison, etc.
Is there a reason you don't want all battle suits though?
You could get four pretty buff suits for 200 points, and then adding special rules would give you some serious firepower.
Also I'm not too sure that kitting the Shas'vre out to get in close is the best idea, I've never had a close combat go well for me with Tau regardless of upgrades.
Otherwise for Kill team this list is pretty decent. I haven't played it heaps but I do occasionally have a game and from what I can see this should work fine.
I would just tend for a smaller elite force, but hey that's me.
Do you know what you may be going up against? There isn't really any way to know what you will be seeing at such a small points limit, but it could help you prepare
if you know the races you are likely going to see.

Have you seen the new kill team rules released yesterday? If not then I will warn you - haywire, flesh bane, shred etc are all now pointless for tau! They now only confer those particular abilities to close combat attacks, and so don't help you at all!

I am almost exclusivly playing Necrons - A guy who LOVES his Immortals. You are right, that Fearless and such is a bad idea, but on the other hand I didn't have much of a choice.
Wait - His 'Mortals has Teslas! Gotta get some more Crisis Suits! Shame I can only use three at best.
And the Ornager Gauntlet was more for fun - DONKEY PUNCH OUT OF [MOD EDIT - Watch the language please. Thanks - Alpharius] NOWHERE.

A friend of mine has written a kill team list with 5 crisis suits! It's do-able!

How is it do-able with 0-1 elite slot? Obviously it's illegal.

No worries bud!
Eternal warrior is nice on a 2 wound suit, my other option would be feel no pain for that added save!
I'd also be tempted by ignores cover on plasma rifles! Could be tasty! Ignoring cover and armour! As for a third specialist....perhaps preferred enemy or something?

Ignore Cover would mean that I had to remove Sniper, as it is a Gun Specialist rule. Could be nasty, as you said, though.

Not sure about your leader's loadout tbh, gauntlet? really? Get more missiles/plasma if you can. Vectored thrusters are pretty poor, at I2 you won't be leaving combat all too often,
Firewarriors work fine here. Battlesuits work well too, though they are more terrain dependent imo. With no drones to block missiles (and you can be sure there will be krak missiles, as with no 2+ saves they are all most armies will need) you will have to use JSJ to keep them safe.
I would consider changing somethings to make it more like this:
Crisis Shas'ui with 2 x missile pods, (Specialist: Preferred enemy)
12 Fire Warriors with Pulse Rifles. (Specialist: maybe stealth? this one isn't important)
Piranha with Burst Cannon (Specialist: Shrouded)
So for a comparison, this kill team is better able to handle vehicles (missile pods), and is better at denying victory points through giving specialists to more durable models.
The only downside is the LD8 of the leader, as opposed to 9 in the first list.

You cannot nominate a vehicle as a specialist.
Last edition I saw a lot of Tau KT lists using Stealth Suits. Are they no good in this new codex?

They are decent enough, but that is their major fault - The can't even compete with the awesomeness that is Crisis Suits and Riptides in the Elite section.

Sure Crisis suits and Riptides are better for regular games but im referring to using Stealth Suits in a Kill Team match. Surely a riptide cannot be in a kill team list and still have enough points for the other three models you need to satisfy the kill team FOC....right?

Just throwing this out there, since Stealth Suits came up. I think they'd actually be -great- for KT games, since they have stealth and shrouded individually.
Here's what I was thinking about for a Tau Empire KT:
Stealth Shas'ui 45
Stimulant Injector
Leader
Stealth Shas'ui 30
Weapon Specialist: Haywire
Stealth Shas'ui 30
Guerilla Specialist: Preferred Enemy
Stealth Shas'ui 30
Combat Specialist: Hatred (meh)
Stealth Shas'ui 30
Early Warning Override
Stealth Shas'ui 30
=200

Early Warning Override is not useful - You cannot enter from Reserves in Kill Team. Rest looks suprisingly good... I just lack 3 Stealth Suits to make it!

I'm running a similar list but have
5 stealth suits - 1 with a FB.
4 pathfinders.
That way I have a markerlight buff or a pulse carbine / pinning option.
Good luck for me tonight against Plague marines :-(

well poo. i guess something like preffered enemy would have to do then. i mean S5 isn't too bad for an assault 4 weapon.
Cyclic ion blaster's also a good option. it;s 15pts though but does have decent diversity with the 2 firing options.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just put together this list. Pretty terrible more than likely as first attempt at a kill team.
Crisis shas'ui 50
Cyclic ion blaster
shield drone
bonding
Crisis Shas'ui 50
Twin linked burst cannon
shield drone
bonding
Spec: Preffered enemy
Crisis Shas'ui 53
plasma rifle
fusion blaster
bonding
spec: tank hunter
Crisis Shas'ui 45
twin linked flamer
shield drone
bonding
spec: feel no pain
total points 198
decided on shield drones cause 4++'s are gold plus they're missile fodder at worst. plus they're a good 13 points cheaper than shield generators.
Tank hunter fusion blaster i just thought might be a laugh for that 3D6 armour pen when close enough XD
