Decent release, not sure if it's really worth the cost though.

I miss the (really) old days of Kill Team where it was one KT going up against an enemy villain, using stealth to avoid small teams of grunts. The grunts would wander around on patrol until they were alerted by klaxon alarms, which were triggered by noise etc.

I was hoping for something like this, but what we have should still be fun. Looking forward to getting in a few games

Played two games now, it's not bad at all.

I liked the original KT game too, but it wasn't really all that fun for the defending player since he couldn't control any of his men. It was a one-player game really.

It's pretty basic; the only differences between the digital release and the free PDF is the special rules you can take are more defined/broken up and there's more pre-made missions.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

You make a valid point. That said, I always loved fielding a stealth suit for my brute boss. I would always hope the offending player broke enough rules to let me make that happen.

I hadn't even known the kill team rules had changed. I still carry the 4th edition rulebook around in case anybody wants to play killteam

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

Kinda sounds like it's more like Combat Patrol (40K in 40 Minutes, republished in 4th edition rulebook).

I remember how powergamers really hated Combat Patrol because they couldn't spam all the stuff they used for crutches.

It's not worth $12.99 but it's ok. On the up side they finally added scenarios so that's a big plus.

They took away the ability for models to split fire with weapons that have more than one shot, that's both good and bad.

It's still very easy to game the system sadly. They've incentivezed numbers over quality way too much for my tastes. Everything scores unless it has an armor value. Missions generally involve 3 objctives and the book says its for 4x4 boards.

Stuff like this ruins it pretty quickly:

10 jetbikes - 3 shuriken cannons
199pts

Can avoid combat, has a good save, jink and has a good chance of killing pretty much any models because of shuriken. The speed at which they can move also makes most of the scenarios a joke.

Then you have stuff like this:

19 kroot with sniper rounds
1 shaper
9 hounds
200pts

So many models, they have the whole issue where they still have their rapid fire profile and the extra sniper one so a lot of shooting. The hounds are now free to move 12 because they're beasts. It's 29 models and it's better than an ork boys list in just about every way. Also, if you play with area terrain made up of trees, hurray for 2+ cover while going to ground...

Now here's something more along the concept of theme of a game like kill team. You'll notice here with this I actually bothered listing specialists and the leader:

White scars chapter traits

Legion of the damned, 4 marines 1 sgt, 145pts

Marine with meltagun (Weapon Specialist: MASTER-CRAFTED)

Marine with multimelta (Guerrilla Specialist: PREFERRED ENEMY)

Scout Squad, 4 scouts 1 sgt, 55pts

Sgt. with bolt pistol, close combat weapon (Combat Specialist: RAGE)

scout = leader

Only 10 models, so more in line with the idea of the game. The legion guys all have relentless and a 3+ invul so that's decent, also all their weapons ignore cover. I'll get to re-roll to hit often with the melta and multimelta and neither of them allow cover. All of the dudes can rapid fire and still charge a model if they don't kill it (assuming its in range).

Overall, it seems like an ok little game but I just don't think you'll see fluffy cool stuff winning, you'll see abusive stuff winning. It's also worth nothing that one of the only pictures in the damn thing shows a librarian... a model you can't even take. There's also an issue with he FOC because there are still unit options in some books that don't take up an FOC slot, so are those legal or no? Instead of going permissive in this book, it's very cobbled together, you'll see what I mean when you read the specialist section, badly put together.

If a usr is only intended for one purpose (shooting or cc) they generally tell you but there are a lot of omissions and parts that look like they need errata or faq.

Bottom line for me is look at the first two lists I posted, are the specialists or leader thing even relevant? Ofcourse I'll have to choose 3 specialists and a leader for each list but it kinda shows the problem with the game, if its supposed to be a cool little game about elite units why the hell is there no model cap? It's possible I missed it if there is one, I took another look through but didn't find any cap, I really hope I just missed it.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.
