Subject: Convergence, any other players out there?

So, I just went and got the Convergence of Cyriss book online, with a couple minis, and was wondering,
Anyone else here play them? If so, how do they play?
Really, I picked these guys up, because since I've started "playing" warmachine, I've always identified myself as a Mercs player, as none of the other armies really had the "look" that caught my eye, until I recently saw the Convergence minis online

That's pretty similar to my story. I was going to start Dwarves, but then I learned Convergence were about to come out so I went out and grabbed the starter box and the faction book. Not sure if you are aware of this website but they give an excellent faction rundown, although not the best individual unit rundowns since a lot of them haven't been written yet. http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/Cyriss The main point is that none of your models are quite as good as the equivalents from other factions. All the cool stuff Convergence can do comes from pushing unit synergies and abilities that leverage off each other (and giving out bucketfuls of free focus every turn...) So we don't really have a single "wow that's amazing" unit, although every unit I've seen is solid and has a place. It's the synergy that lets pretty much any unit be amazing in the right circumstance.

Not all the models have been released so they are still incomplete as a faction. But they look interesting and my brother has some.
I think once they are completely released they will start showing up more.

I've been painting mine as I find the time. I've got quite a bit left to do.
Magnetizing the first heavy was harder than others factions have been.

There is only one guy in our town of 30 or so players who has Convergence, and he has 7 factions.
They are a hard army to get the hang of as they play so different to the normal mechanics to get the best out of them.
However I think the biggest dampener is PP stating that there will not be regular new models/releases for them.

I think they said there will not be any releases in the next couple of books. But since they still have plenty to release from the faction book I am not surprised.
And then they said they may not get as many updates as other factions. May being the key word there. You are looking at 1-2+ years out possibly and things may change quite a bit.
I expect they will get support along the lines of the merc factions.
But I do agree with your general point. PP being wishy washy about what to expect with them doesn't offer encouragement for people interested in starting them as a main faction. At this point they are more of a secondary or for fun faction.

Popping in to say hi, initially wasn't going to go for the faction but black friday sales were absurdly good on overstocked cyriss stuff.

I have 35 points so far. Still need to get a proper game in.
In testing, Axiom Prime is amazing and Syntherion is probably the best 'jack caster in the game.

A limited faction that allows for deeper thought. Everything has a use and you need to be a lil more creative with your list building since you have less to work with. I was not even looking at the faction until I read the rules for Mother Directrix. I think she is the standout caster of the faction and her tier list is absurd.
I like Syntherion, and the Axiom is aces, so going from there is a solid start.

I agree with this analysis. I don't think we have a "bad" caster, but Directrix and Syntherion are the two ones I think are our best. I haven't really been able to unlock Directrix though. The only thing that jumps out at me is mass elimination servitor puncture shenanigans with Backlash, but that seems suspiciously like "doing it wrong"... Probably just lack of familiarity with the game and the faction. I really haven't played that much.
I'd also like to mention Syntherion's tier list. It literally just gives you bonuses for taking all the stuff you want to take anyway. And to be fair a Syntherion list pretty much builds itself. The only question is what flavor of jacks you want to take that game.

From skimming the book, I'm a bit shaken by the versatility that Cyriss shows. Nearly every infantry unit has two forms to choose from allowing them to shift usually from defensive to offensive or one type of offense to another. The javelin throwing armor piercing heavy infantry seem really nasty with either a boost to range or to their damage. They can put the smack down on other heavy infantry or chunk a warjack with an assault order. That said, most infantry are generally a touch under par not counting in their bonus ability and knowing when to switch will be key.
The vectors I find a little lacking. They will have trouble going toe to toe with a Khador jack with out significant support from what I can tell.
Your battle engine is intriguing to say the least and is definitely towards the top of the battle engine power scale. Choosing how to/ how much boost or # of attacks makes it rather flexible.
Your colossal is good, but with how vectors pass off focus I'm not sure which would truly be a better buy. The big advantage the colossal brings is high power attacks which are lacking elsewhere in the army.
