Not how, when, or who will attack it, but do you want Terra to be attacked again?

I think he may mean something post 13th black crusade where chaos goes to ring the emperor's door bell again.

No, because if that happens then that means the story will have progressed, and Warhammer 41k doesn't sound as good.

Shred City.

No thanks. Chaos is favored by GW, and they'd bring their primarchs out of the shadows which would allow them to make fantastic ground, etc, etc, while the Imperials are all suffering grim dark situations and have to make sacrifices and ruin whole chapters and blah blah blah, and in the end after some plot-armored solution Chaos would just recede as usual back to the safety of their Eye, mostly intact, and leaving a badly beaten but still existing Imperium behind.

Yawn.

No. What would it add to the setting? GW can't kill off the Imperium, so we already know exactly what is going to happen at the second siege of Terra.

Eh...not really. There's already enough problems from the outer fringes of the Imperium for the setting to feel like the Imperium is on its last knees. To have someone actually invade Terra would also disturb the status quo of power as this means that a faction would have to be strong enough to force back the extremely formidable defenses of not only Luna but an entire Segmentum Battlefleet, Mars' own forces given their proximity, a butt-ton of Space Marine chapters around the area that would converge at a moment's notice (including likely a sizable amount of Imperial Fists), AND Terra's own overly-reinforced defenses.

And if it's not a single faction that breaks through then it'll be a really nasty cop-out similar to DoW where conveniently all the factions are able to converge on Terra at the exact same time with the exact amount of sufficient forces to make a massive all out free-for-all Terra showdown. And as others have pointed out this would either end in an event with nothing significant happening with little change (which we have enough of already) or actually moving the plot forward which in both cases are generally pretty bad for a setting like 40K.

Mixed feelings, would love some Terran centered works from black library so I say yes, but I would probably prefer them to be more politically based than pure military. Like finding out Alpharius has been on the council of terra since the first siege.

But no because I don't want the story to advance, to much history to be covered without going fonward.

Yes, but sadly the real Terra was essentially destroyed during the events of Horus Rising.

Kind of. Adeptus Mechanicus, Imperial Fists, Black Templars, and Soul Drinkers all besieged the Ecclesiarch and Imperial Palaces during the Age of Apostasy. Fought against the Daughters of the Emperor/Frateris Templar. Custodes, Inquisition, Arbites, IG, etc. all largely stayed out of it.

The Eldar or the Tau could always come in and save the day. Or a Deus Ork Machina.

But noooooooo. That would advance the plot. Although even as a Chaos supported, I haven't a clue how Chaos could punch through the defenses of Terra. Lunar Death Star and all.

No, it would be silly. The preceding events to a second siege of Terra would be way too destabilizing to the universe.

a seige of terra strikes me as something that'd be unpopular and GW would proably end up with a "13th black crusade" situation of "well crap if we actually move things forward AT ALL, now, the game ends"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Maybe someday....they'd have to solve some of the Imperium's current problems first, but then, yes, it would be an interesting plot development

They'd actually take it. IIRC, one Necron ship that wasn't even a capital ship manged to get past the defenses of the Sol System till it was brought down by combined fire from well, everything.

It even landed on Mars and sat there for a little while before being destroyed. Anything could have happened.

You forgot the Fire Hawks and the Imperial Navy. The Inquisition were kind of kicked off Terra early on during the Reign of Blood, and the terran Arbites were presumably disbanded by Vandire as the Brides of the Emperor expanded to take over their role.

The siege was only broken when the Custodes said enough was enough and got the Brides to defect after several months of holding off the Siegemasters and three of their successor chapters and representatives of the Ordo Reductor (and presumably other tech-guard units). Sure, they lost most of the Frateris Templar who were still on Terra, but... that's still impressive, you have to admit. The only way that four space marine chapters, the imperial navy and the adeptus mechanicus managed to beat the proto-Sororitas was because the Brides surrendered.

Technically, they were specialist blockade runner craft designed for pure speed and stealth. One of four ships got through after appearing near Titan, and they didn't kill a single Imperial ship as far as we know. They just ran past them.

That wasn't real Terra.

That was a world calling itself terra that was the 3rd planet from the sun in a 9-planet system.

But as you should well know, we only have 8 Planets

I would like to see a siege of terra as this would give them a good reason to write rules and make models for mechanicum and Adeptus Custodes factions.

It could also allow them to pitch a huge multi faction fight such as the tyranids invading, partially awakening the dragon on mars and awakening a bunch of necron forces to attack, then the orks could join, and the poor IoM would have to hold as the mess unravels. Even the CWE could join in the fun manipulating events.

Unfortunately to do so they would have to progress to 41K. It wouldn't necessitate changing the game's name (as the game's name can represent 40-49K of the calendar) but it would cause some issues with the setting and current policies.
