Oh well, I 'spose we should've checked with you sooner. You should inform GW of your preference so that they can remove them immediately.
You could say that about just about any rumour. Disbelieving it out of spite doesn't really amount to anything.

No, no, no. They'll slap some armor on the Fantasy Giant and add in slots on the shoulders so you can have two guardsmen on either side with a heavy bolter/autocannon/lascannon. They'll be MCs you can take in squads of 3.

Is there any reason not to? 40K radio has a great track record so far, and they are reporting information they have been given. It is not from their usual sources, so they note it as being from a listener. It's just a basic summary of the relevant information.

This is one time I can agree with Kanluwen. Ogryn are ugly. Deliberately ugly, but ugly all the same. Gigantism doesn't mean you have to look like a literal ogre.

Well, I don't like the fluff on Ogryns and ratlings as well. Judging by the modus operandi of the imperium, both would rather be burned as mutants than enlisted in the guards.
As for the roles: Ogryns are only there because with things like ork mobs with 4 attacks on a charge and bloodletters with WS5 being the baseline of close combat (everything below is just CC fodder for the more capable mele units), there is no way to get regular humans anything competetive in that area, so they imported some ogres from WHFB to fill the gap that could be much better and much fluffier closed with some form of dreadnought for IG. Dunno, CC-Sentinel or something.
As for ratlings, I really don't understand where they came from. Just add something like "IG Sniper Team" or "IG forward recon team", kind of along the lines of SM Scouts. So why in the name of the 4 chaos gods ratlings? I guess we shall never know...

40K is fantasy in space. It's always been fantasy in space. They may have removed the "Space Dwarves", but they replaced them with "Space Undead". Ogryn are Space Ogres, so of course they're going to look like Ogres. I know you know this already, but railing against it is kinda pointless. It's a concrete part of 40K, just like the mighty Imperial Gua... oh wait... feth...

I'm saying, is there even any reason for THEM to believe? This just sounds more like the Natfka style of printing every rumor that ends up in your inbox than the preiously reliable 40K Radio stuff. If they're passing along info that they aren't even convinced is true, then they start losing credibility quickly.

That 'importing' happened in Rogue Trader. At that point, the game also included Minotaurs, Trolls, and Slann, amongst other things, because yes indeed, it was just a scifi adaptation of WHFB. Ogryns aren't there to balance out Orks (who could originally also take Ogryn). They're there because GW pulled most of the original 40K stuff from fantasy.

Aye, silly odd note my original Rogue Trader Ork army had a Ogryn leader, (Blood Bowl conversion) at the time due to scale he was massive, but recent Ogryns haven't measured up. If this box does indeed turn up and they are bigger I might well revist him.

I know of the origins. But we are in the 6th edition of the game, possibly on the way to 7th, though I highly doubt the later. With so much retcon going on, things being removed or added at will, there are just things that very well could have been changed by now. And stable mutations or not, maybe there is some fluff I am not aware off, but I didn't figure abhumans to be either very fitting nor very popular with IG players.

It all depends on your point of view. I like the models, so I have them even if I rarely field them.
I still have my two squads of 2nd Ed Ratlings, one in Praetorian and one in Mordian colours. I also have my Ogryn squad, a mixture of Rogue Trader and 2nd Ed versions led by the latest Bone 'Ead.
Tucked away and ready to be broken out is my plasma pistol and chainsword armed IG Beastman squad leader....just in case he becomes legal again!
Of course, once I get the Bob Olley Scrunt pith helmet heads, my old plastic Squats get an upgrade and join the Imperial Guard.

Abhumans have largely been unpopular with guard players simply because they've had crap rules for see time now. And in the case of Ogryn at least, the models are ugly.
If they fix at least one of those two things, you'll likely see more of them on the table.
