I've already have a DA army and I have ran them as a fallen army. Now that Cypher has came out I want him in my army but obviously they decided that DA shouldn't get him. What army would best rep DA. I don't want chaos because I never liked them and feel their units are not similar to DA. So the other marine armies besides that one are SM, BA, SW, and GK. Which do you think best reps DA. Obviuously SM is very general but what do the others offer.

Well the fallen are chaos but usually operate on smaller levels. It's more like 1-5 fallen on average maybe 10 at most together who have a bunch of chaos cultists with them.

Personally fluff wise you can do small 500 points games with all the fallen being buffed out, but they are partially contorted by chaos. If you are doing large games use ally rules with chaos or imperial guard as your main force then ally generic space marines with cypher as HQ then one tactical squad as the fallen. Usually the fallen have the citizens fooled, so imperial guard could work as rebel guard or traitor guard.

Yeah...it's kinda like that.

I see, so a fallen army is really not a realistic thing in the fluff. In that case the best choice for a fallen army (besides chaos because I'm just not a fan of them) would be a marine codex allied with guard, what one would you choose? I was thinking in that case maybe SW where I could have wolf guards leading imp squads (on second thought, are you allowed to do that?)

I don't know I don't have a space wolves codex but that would be pretty awesome and it can represent the fallen very well with them leading the imperial guard squads, I don't know either if that works. If it does and you use them just make sure they don't look like space wolves lol. They should look like a chaos space marine with dark angels colors.

I mean if you read any of the novels and fluff the fallen are chaos space marines in the end. The reason the fallen stand out more for dark angels is because the dark angels are still good guys and back in the day half of the chapter went to chaos and became traitors. Every other chapter that went chaos they all did. Dark angels were split down the middle and only dark angels know who the fallen are and dark angels try to hunt them down to hide the fact that their brethren were tainted with chaos.

Can you answer me this please, what is the purpose of this army? For competitive tournaments or fun and laid back with friends or local store?

I mean for tournaments you can run full space marines and call them the fallen but there is like zero fluff and no awesomeness to it unless you did chaos space marines and some of them were the fallen. I agree with you though I don't like chaos at all except when I crush them lol

I am a fan of both dark angels and the fallen. (I don't have dark angels but I was going to before and decided on eldar) but I already read a lot of dark angels stuff and studied the 5th edition codex which sucked after the 5th edition space marine codex came out.

Yeah my best idea of the fallen if not using them as chaos would be regular tactical squads or stern guard, or jump packless vanguard.

Um as far as what space marine chapter that best represents them, I would say is a forge world made one that is a successor to the raven guard (not raven wing) and their tactics are the first half of what raven guard have then the 2nd is if a squad stands still all their bolt pistols, boltguns, and combi bolters firing as bolters become heavy 1 and rending.

No, you are not. It says in the codex what units they can lead.

And SW anyway are quite far from the Fallen. I myself would use Chaos or DA for Fallen. Those are what fit, failing them, use SM.

The Fallen are not an organized faction. The largest gathering of them was at Cypher's behest in a war that wiped out one of the Unforgiven chapters. It's detailed in his dataslate.

Whether the fallen and Cypher himself are actually agents of Chaos is up for debate. His formation in the slate, though, if you choose to use that rather than take him as an HQ in the allowed codices, is him and a bunch of Chosen out of Codex: Chaos Marines.

So, basically, do what you want. Long story short, the Fallen are kind of meant to be an outlet for you to play around with your own story for how and why they are the thing that they are.
