Why did you never start or alternately stop playing/collecting Heavy Gear?
Never heard of it... what's Heavy Gear?
Don't like the mech minis genre in general.
Don't like the look of Heavy Gear specifically (art, minis, etc).
Don't like the price of Heavy Gear (books, minis, etc).
Don't like the mechanics of the game/silhouette system.
Don't like edition changes in Heavy Gear every 2-3 years.
Couldn't find any opponents to play against.
Couldn't find any of the products locally to buy.
Other (please elaborate below)
Inadequate support from DP9 (expansions, communication with fans, FAQs, etc).
Power creep and unequal efficacy between factions.
Poor resource management (playtesters, freelancers, website, etc) by DP9.

Someone over on Reddit has made a WFP "Owl Bear," and it took me right back to Operation: Drop Bears Dive!

There used to be a stickied thread on the official forum but that was years ago (when I last visited regularly) and it was semi-outdated even then. You might have some luck on the HG facebook group. No idea if there is a HG discord though...

There's three of them actually.

"Force Ten" the official DP9 server - mostly HG the RPG 4e, but Rooster, the rules author for Blitz, is most active here - https://discord.gg/52kXZufPhs

"Heavy Gear Hangout" which is predominately HGB over TTS and your best bet for organizing a game that way - https://discord.gg/fN5t2ekBDr

"Heavy Gear Blitz" which is the most active tabletop miniature wargaming discussion - https://discord.com/invite/ExrBaMK

P.S. if any of those links don't work, tell me so I can update them in the HGB links section of my blog - https://yadzcb.friestman.net/pages/links.html

Thanks for the link! I'm not active in the scene (despite posting here on occasion) but I appreciate you sharing the links for those who are. I'm more here for nostalgic anecdotes and to occasionally shout at passing clouds.

Then you should look in the Player Finder section of the Heavy Gear Blitz discord, because that's where you're going to find anyone near you that's still active.

The US section has hundreds of posts (I'm presuming by your flag). Last one was about a month ago. The only section with "two posts" is where someone didn't know how the discord forum channel works and asked about players in Tuscon outside of the US thread, the one people actually watch.

Where on earth did you post and get no response?

Thanks for making me (even)old(er)! Happy Bday! Is the anniversary considered the Gencon it premiered at? If so, I was there for the birth, lol.

Looks like the Barnaby STL has been released and even comes with a monopose jager

Interesting... I wish they'd done the same with the Behemoth :(

And that they finally would start releasing HG STl files for real. Even if they only do 28mm sets to avoid any possible issue with their regular sales.

I'd really love to get official 28mm HG minis...

EDIT: Can confirm that the Barnaby includes a Jäger, and that it's modelled after the metal Blitz era one, which is fantastic news. So I have now one official Heavy Gear Gear STL

I've gotten the Barnaby because I have a resin one and I'd like to do a comparison between both models.

So, as said, I bought the Barnaby. Why? Well, as I said, I would buy Gears if they sold them as STLs, and I will! And I have, sorta xd.

It indeed includes a resting posed Jäger, which is based off Blitz's metals, which was a really, really nice surprise.

Weird thing is that, for whatever reason, they seem to have gone for much less poli count of the Jäger than on the (otherwise unremarkable) wheels... which is weird.

See what I mean.... wheels:

Jäger:

It's just... weird.

Anyways, I've merged some bits and prepared a plate to print a couyple off. I also have the original resin Barns, so I can make a comparison

I have also modified slightly the wheels, so that they look more similar to the original illustration... I've always wondered why did they make so many smallish changes on it.

This is what I'm going for

This is the original resin, which has the same wheels:

And this is Ghislaine's original. See what I mean?

Printed a couple of Barnabies and finally got the will to assemble the original resin one, which is like so:

Spoiler:

This how one of the printed ones look (with shitt, partial priming coat):

Spoiler:

Comparisons:

I also printed the Jäger, which feels a bit too small? Just a tad, maybe because of the LAC, which is huge

Did a quick paintjob of one:

EDIT: ...Seriously, DP9, let us pay you for Gears!

I would buy a load of STLs for stuff I probably won't ever use, just to have them, but buying physical is totally and completely out of the question, nowadays. Also, I'd rather print Gears at 15mm or 28mm scale if I'm being honest ^^

I think it's just that LAC is abnormally wide. Everything else looks exactly right to me.

That's my theory, but I need to put it side by side with one of the older Gears, just to check, because it felt smallish... might just be that it's light for the size, used to the old metals.

Looks great so far! The pose on the Jaeger is a bit stiff but (unfortunately) matches the plastics. Is it presupported and printed in one piece? Do you think it's worthwhile to cut and repose it as a general purpose Jaeger print? Perfectly fine though for a few deep inside the transport like Forgeworld did with Tau crisis suits and their transports.

Yeah, for what it is, it's perfectly fine... I just wish DP would be arsed to actually sell them as gaming pieces instead >_>.

The files are unsupported (and cut up in waay too many pieces... the same as for the resin version) and the Jäger is one piece, as-is and unsupported, to put inside the transport the same way as the resin one has (half of a Gear, because it didn't need more xD).

That said, the Jäger's pose is stiff because is in a resting pose, not in action, but details wise it's very much based off the Blitz era metals, which are immensely better!

I'm actually trying to see if I can actually work with it for exactly the purpose you state above... hopefully DP9 will go and make my efforts moot by selling Gears in STL already! I want my 15mm and 28mm Gears

Two steps forward, once step back to sell STLs but without having them presupported. I'd expect to support models myself if they're free or I'm modifying them myself (like with size or pose).

Did you end up printing out in gaming scale the ExtraGuy patreon models per chance? Those looked cool for sure.

Not yet >_>... I kinda got scared of the detail level when scaling it down xd. I think I only have the Kodiak though

The Extra Guy kodiak will work in gaming scale but you just need to combine some parts and fill in the torso. Don't forget to grab the AGM I made for it a while back.

Self Plug time, we're finally getting a proper Bear and Mad Dog and the cursed metal hybrid kit is finally going away. More of my sculpts should hopefully pop up in the future
