So I found this conversion online and would like to do something similar:

I'm really not very familiar with 40k models, though. Any suggestions as to what parts to look for? Is it a fairly standard terminator torso with space marine arms/legs? Or is a terminator torso bigger? I'd like to put it on a 30mm base, and I'm not sure what the base size is in the picture.

Edit: Maybe it's even just a regular terminator with a dwarf head? At any rate, ideas for how I could do something similar on a 30mm base would be fantastic.

Its either a dwarf head or a Space Wolves head with a sculpted beard. Space Wolves Wolf Guard Termnator body, right arm, shouder pads and possibly legs. Left arm, not sure.
Looks like he cut the model from mid thigh to knee to shorten the legs.
Terminator models come with 40mm bases, so I'd guess that would be the size, but it could fit on 30mm base, but the base may look a little small. Only 1 way to fing out though
You could do it all from a Space Wolves Wolf Guard Termnator if you like the norse/ viking raider feel, or regular/ assault terminators if you are going a differrent way.
Looks pretty cool.
The wolf giuard set give you the option of ranged or assault weapon load outs.

Awesome, thanks! I can see the parts now - basing it off of a terminator should give me a lot of options for variety/conversions. Maybe I can narrow the stance a little when I cut the legs to get it on a 30mm base. Or find older metal terminators which I think were smaller...

I looks like a worf guard but with the legs shortened.

And why would you want to do this? Squats are terrible.

There are no rule sets for squats are there?

In what way would they be terrible?

Nope, they don't have any official rules in 6th. What's terrible is that sing your life is stating his opinion as if it is a fact, which is quite irrelevant to this thread.

From the pic, it looks like it's a normal torso placed on legs with the thighs shortened.

Yes the metal teminators were smaller and slimmer, but also solid single pieces for he legs and torso's. You will be spending a fair bit of time with the hacking at them.

Personally I'd stick to the plastics as its easier to work with and much more pose-able etc... I got 10 meal Wolf Guard termintors lying in a box and I wouldn't want to take a hacksaw to them...

As for asking why squats are terrible.... just asking from genuine curiosity.... it may be that aesthetically they are terrible.... for me I think they are cool looking.... as for terrible to play it depends on what codex you try to use.... could be fun to have a stumpy logan-wing army hahaha!!!

Gotcha, thanks for the extra input everyone! Anyone have any idea how well they'd fit on a 30mm round lipped base? Or would I be better off trying to convert regular space marines or other models into squats if that's my goal?

Space Marines fit on 25mm bases so there should be no issues withgoig on to a 30mm base.

As for shortening a Space Marine.... I am not so sure.

Yu could give it a try if you had a spare marine lying about, but I wouldnr spend money on a box of them unless you are sure.... I think the terminators look really good, but its the more expensive option

I disagree with that, far more terrible is that far seer thinks that anyone who disagrees with him is trying to say their opinion is a fact

and you understand why space shorts in egg armour are terrible for 40k.
