Okay. As I've mentioned in a couple of previous threads, I'm starting up an ABG army. Currently I'm just thinking through some lists before I go out to buy anything.
After reading around for tactics and lists, I've pretty much come to the following points:

-An ABG should either be optimised for taking out all of the opponent's scoring units, or take an ally for cheapo scoring (IG platoons especially)
-An ABG needs variation with its firepower - battle cannon spam will only go so far, and will have a tough time vs Av 14.
-Command/Commissar tanks should be Vanquishers, unless fluff gets in the way, to make good use of BS 4 and Beast Hunter shells.
-Troop choices tend to boil down to LRBT vs LR Demolisher vs Mech IG. Unless you've got allies, then it's LRBT vs LR Demolisher. Choice should be based on expected meta, personal preference.00

With these in mind, I've constructed these lists:

750 pts. This one I think may be a little OTT for such a low pts level:
Spoiler:

HQ:
-LR Exterminator w/Lascannon, Bolter Sponsons [195 pts] (fluff choice, though versatility should keep it effective)

Troops:
-LRBT [150 pts]
-LRBT [150 pts]
-IG in Chimera [105 pts]

Fast Attack:
-Vendetta [130 pts]

Battle Plan: Turns 1-3 are for killing enemy scoring units, while hiding my chimera. Turns 4-5 are for covering the chimera while it sits on an objective.

2000 pts:
Spoiler:

HQ:
-LREx w/HB Sponsons, Improved Comms [190 pts] (fluff choice, again, though the Comms is debateable)
-LR Vanq w/Co-Axial Stubber, Beast Hunter Shells [190 pts]

Troops:
-LRBT [150 pts]
-LRBT [150 pts]
-LRBT [150 pts]
-LRBT [150 pts]
-LRBT [150 pts]

Fast Attack:
-Vendetta [130 pts]

Heavy Support:
-Medusa Siege Gun [135 pts]
-Medusa Siege Gun [135 pts]

Allied:

HQ:
-Primaris Psyker [70 pts]

Troops:
-IG Platoon:
PCS w/Chimera [85 pts]
IG w/Chimera [105 pts]
IG w/Chimera [105 pts]
IG w/Chimera [105 pts]

I'm rather reluctant to go with LR Demolishers, as they need to move forwards to be effective, while a LRBT does not.

So. Thoughts? Tactics?

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

all over the world

both lists look pretty brutal to me - see what the reincarnation of tyranids does to the game as they may have a lot of tank popping potential with the new super sized gribblys

I like to play fluffy but if i was to go for all out killing to counter this it would be a pure DKOK siege list gun line of 'earthshaker siege carriages' at 75pts a pop.

Whats your thoughts on Thunderers as troops in your smaller list to free up points for your HQ to have a vanquisher and beast slayer shell upgrade?

may just counter that MC that are getting increasingly popular

if a dolphin will jump out of water for fish, just imagine what it would do for chips?

Yes, Tyranids could be a tricky one. I'd probably try to fit in a Commissar Vanquisher to counter their gribblies.

I hadn't really taken into account the kind of hardware the DKoK can bring, but, then again, most of my enemies are SM, Orks, IG and BA. If I were to face that, I'd just have to drop my pants and get a taset of my own medicine...

Thunderers are only 10 pts cheaper than a LRBT, and you lose range and the ability to fire from a turret, which means that you have to keep moving around to get firing lines, which can expose your side or rear armour. And you lose the Lumbering Behemoth rule, so you can't fire multiple guns on the move. I'd rather have a Demolisher, tbh.

Stock LRBTs just ain't worth it.

The 2k list has almost no AP 2. Imagine going up against tau with riptides. The list completely over saturates its Str 8 AP 3.

I'd suggest getting an exterminator or two in there.

Exterminators use Autocannons, do you mean Eradicators (They have a big plasmacannon).

You're right about the lack of Ap 2 there.

Okay:

Replace 2x LRBT with 2x Eradicator (+20 pts)
Remove Improved Comms (-10 pts)
Remove 1x Mechanized IG squad (-105 pts)
Give the Eradicators Plasma Cannon Sponsons (+80 pts)
Give LREx a Lascannon (+15 pts)

=2,000 pts.
