Id say that the surviving chaos ones came out fairly well. They are still alive and well and have their own empires to rule. some of the even having attained 'godhood' in the form of becoming daemon princes.

in my opinion, Fulgrim lost the most, he never really wanted to betray the emperor, but his body could not resist chaos, and when he picked up the sword and killed ferrus.. his closest brother.......

Ferrus came out the worst, missing his head.
Fulgrim made out the best, he is having a ball. Nothing like the rush of seeing the betrayed look in your brother's eyes before you murder him. The guilt, the glee, so exhilarating.

Except that it's not Fulgrim, but a Daemon. Fulgrim cowers in his own mind.
Sticking to traitor Primarchs I'd say that they all gained something useful but have ended up trapped by their gifts.
They are all Daemon Princes now aren't they (the ones that are confirmed to still exist)?
Fulgrim, Angron, Magnus, Mortarion, Lorgar and Perturabo have become physically greater than they were, but are tied to the warp forever. I think this would plague Angron the most, driving him into further depths of rage.

I have a hard time picturing any primarch walking away from the siege of terra feeling like things had gone well.
Sanguinus didn't go out too bad. Everybody dies, and he went out a hero. The circumstances of his death are also probably the only thing that prevent the Inquisition from purging the Blood Angels.
I don't think the Alpha Legion got hurt too badly either.

Thats no longer true. Fulgrim used the time he spent trapped in the recesses of his mind to learn about Daemons and the warp, until he was able to drive out the Daemon.
Fulgrim's most loyal Commanders (Lucius, Fabius Bile etc) had began to suspect that their Primarch had been posessed by an entity of the warp. They incapacitated him, restrained him and began to torture or experiment on him, trying to drive the Daemon out. Fulgrim eventually revealed that he had already regained control of his body and subdued the Daemon, but had decided to embrace Chaos. Allowing them to capture him and torture/experiment on him was his way of testing their loyalty and teaching them a lesson. Apparently they passed.
Fulgrim is no longer a prisoner in his own mind but has fully embraced Chaos.

I find that story a tad ambiguous, I still think it's the daemon.
OT, I'd say Corax or Vulkan came off worse from the Heresy, their legions decimated, their sanity slipping.
Guilliman originally came off best, but with the new fluff, he's lost a LOT.

Lorgar, of course.
He proved he was right: the gods were real. He did what he thought it should be done and changed the fate of the galaxy.
Then he retired to do what he likes to do: write books. He didn´t care at all about commanding the Legion or being a leader. That´s what Erebus and Kor Phaeron are for. He wanted to be a writer. He wants to be a spiritual leader, of course, but he is not fond of giving sermons, he is mostly into writing stuff and let others do the job.
And both his previous books, "Lectitio Divinitatus" and "The Book of Lorgar" became massive best-sellers, read, discussed and appreciated by countless billions. Which is a massive hard-on for any writer.
And before the Heresy, he was trapped in a job he didn´t want, and looked down by his opinions.
About loyalist Primarchs: they all lost something that was very important to them. None of them wanted the Heresy to happen.

I've read that story twice now and I still think its the deamon tricking them. He still talks like the deamon. And when Lucius stares at the painting, the way its written, it still feels like Fulgrims still in there!

I think it'd be better if you asked more poignant questions instead of open ended fanboi teasers where people are just going to scream for their favorite faction. Ask more direct questions instead of 'Who be da bestest baddie that every baddied'....these kind of questions are a waste of time.
This one needs to be more specific as well. Be more specific and people won't 'hate' on your threads so much and think you are just trying to stir gak.

You can formulte and adjust your opinion based on the feedback of others. Looking at others opinions and any evidence they provide to support those opinions is the sign of an open mind. Not allowing others opinions and evidence to influence your own is the sign of willful ignorance and the complete opposite to having an open mind.

Well tbh, all of the Traitor Primarch's are still very much Alive n Kicking...albeit they sold their souls.
While all of the Loyalist Primarch's are either Mortally Wounded, Dead or are Missing in Action. Automatically Appended Next Post: In fact the Only loyalist Primarch who got what he wanted so to speak was Girlyman who managed to finish, publish and implement the Codex Astartes.

"You strive for victory. That is obvious. What may be less obvious is the nature of victory. There are circumstances in which you can destroy the enemy utterly, without loss to your own forces, and yet the victory may be his. In all situations, you must first decide on the nature of victory, and then take steps to secure it. Avoid the instinct of fight first and think later." ( Leman Russ ) |

Unless someone can actually confirm that thats written in a Horus Heresy book somewhere, I wouldn't really take that wiki entry too seriously, unlike lexicanum, the editors there have a tendency to play it 'fast and loose' with the fluff...

Lesser Daemon of Chaos
|
I think of the Primarchs that survived Curze did the worst out of the traitors, thanks to Sevatar, most of the legion survied but were scattered into warbands even before the end of the war. He destroyed his home world, he lost his sanity, broke his own beloved code, and presided over a legion that he hated. Of all the Primarchs I believe Curze to be the only one who actually welcomed and believed he deserved death.
Of the loyaloists I'd say The Lion. He was almost a shoe-in for being the next Warmaster, who could have actually successfully opposed Guiliman's reforms to the legions. However, what should have been a glorious victory, turned sour at the realisation that his mentor and best friend had lead his Lhome world against him, resulting in the destruction of Caliban, the Lion going into seclusion. The Dark Angels were the second most powerful of all of the surving loyalist legions and yet fell into almost complete obscurity. Look at 40k, a huge percentage of Chapters owe lineage to the Ultramarines, they are one of the most celebrated Chapters and rule over the most prosperous, nicest worlds in the imperium. Whereas the Dark Angels are a handful of chapters that are forced to conduct most of their wars in secrecy, don't even have a homeworld let alone an empire and are viewed with suspicion and distrust by the Inquistion. As a legacy of one of the greatest generals in the galaxy, I'd say the Lion lost more than even the victims of the dropsite massacre.

I believe the source is the shorrt story The Reflection Crack'd.
Lexicanum says the same thing.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Fulgrim#Daemonhood
Lexicanum wrote:However in the months afterwards Fulgrim was able to regain his body by unknown means, trapping its essence in the same painting he had been trapped in. This was only revealed to his Legion when a group of Captains led by Lucius realised what had happened to their Primarch and took Fulgrim captive, he allowed them to do this to prove he was no longer possessed, and tried to make the Daemon release its hold over him. Fulgrim revealed that he had forced the Daemon out and had been himself for some time, and had chosen to devote himself to Slaanesh fully and of his own free will.[4]
