Varying cities in the North

Hello people of Dakka.

Here I am again, dipping back into the hobby. Being at University with all of my modelling and painting supplies a two hour train ride away, I don't do much in the hobby any more. However, I hope this blog will inspire me to greater things, helped by a campaign my local GW are running. The festive holiday period has provided me with the time I needed to get cracking on my Iron Hands. There is no Mechanicus yet, but hopefully they will arrive in the form of Imperial Guard allies soon enough. Anyway, without further ado, onwards with the blog!

The Tactical Squads are made of bits from the new Tactical Squad box, the Sternguard Veterans box, Necron parts, Forgeworld Umbra Ferrox bolters and many other materials and bits (watch parts, guitar strings yadda yadda). Here are the two squads:

And if you really want, here are some close-ups of my favourites (yes I have favourites, stop judging):
Spoiler:

Also I have some Dreadnoughts left over from a previous attempt at a similar force that didn't get very far:

More angles:
Spoiler:

And of course, I need a leader for my Clan (which is as of yet undecided), and he takes the form of a Master of the Forge with a bike.

Thanks for looking, I hope to finish a unit of Sternguard and Captain in Terminator armour soon! And, of course, C&C is most welcome.

Nice work. I'm looking forward to this. I've always thought watch parts works really well with IH/AM, and your conversions are great.

That master of the forge looks Awsome can i ask what all did you use to make it?

Ah ha-ha, chess. The ancient contest of wits. Two opponents: mano a mano. Braino a braino. And look: magnets for ease of travel. You could play chess on the moon. "The Tick"
God-Emperor? Calling him a god was how all this mess started.Bjorn the Fell-Handed

Thanks, @Paradigm!

@Vetgrunt, there are many parts involved. The head is from a chaos kit (sorry, was in my bits box, no specifics) with the mutation cut off, the bike is one of the Forgeworld ones, the leg is a Maxmini bionic leg, the backpack is the Heavy Bolter one from the new Sternguard kit, with a Forgeworld brass symbol, one servo arm from the Thunderfire Cannon Techmarine, and the other created from a wire thing on an Ork Loota's gun and some Ironclad Dreadnought fingers. The servo arm on the bike is also from the Thunderfire Cannon Techmarine, with the combi-flamer from the new Tactical Squad kit. I think that covers anything, it is of course garnished with watch parts and guitar wire.

PEOPLE OF DAKKA I NEED YOUR HELP! I RECRUIT YOU TO GIVE YOUR OPINIONS!

I have started my conversion of a Captain, from the Terminator Librarian model, but the counts-as Thunder Hammer looks a little big in my opinion, and I request yours. Please ignore the excessive amounts of blu tac, the barely started bionics, and the shield because albeit my first ever use of plasticard, I like it and it is therefore non-negotiable. Thank you for your input, which I eagerly await, here are some quick snaps from a variety of random angles.

It's been a while, but I have returned. I will apologise early on for the background of the images and poor quality, they were quick snaps before priming. Anyway, my Sternguard Squad and the final shots of the the Terminator Captain.

Plasticard Shield with Forgeworld Brass Symbols

And finally a close-up of his bionic leg.

I realise the weapon/shield/shoulders of the Captain look a bit big, but that is the look I was trying to achieve, as I feel that the Iron Hands would be a Chapter that take things to excessive measures, chopping off limbs to purge weakness, making larger shields for more protection etc. I hope you see where I'm coming from.

Anyway, enjoy, and I hope to have some painted models soon.

Hello again!

My hobby has unfortunately slowed quite a lot recently, but I hope to address this now that my exams are over and I have a bit more time on my hands (and I've had my bitz box sent to uni, which helps). Here I have some things I'm currently working on.

First is my Techmarine/magos/priest/thing (use him as a techmarine) with a servitor carrying his conversion beamer. This was just a bit of fun for a modelling competition at my local GW, he probably won't get used but I think he's alright, so you can see him anyway.

Here is my first Tactical Squad painted up to tabletop standard, a pretty basic paintjob, but I'm not sure if my cruddy camera on my phone even picks up the highlights on their armour.

And their rhino

And the second Tactical Squad

Constructive criticism is, as always, appreciated, but please remember these are only tabletop standard, I'm aiming to finish my Contemptor Dreadnought by the end of the week, along with my assignment...

Me again, and today I've used my bitz box to create some servitors/Mechanicus Thralls or something. They're very much WIP at the moment, but here they are.

Wow, I've somehow missed these updates. Everything is looking very cool, and nicely done. Your painting is very solid, and I love the Librarian's force-chain-wrench!

They've all been pretty recent, but thanks for the comments. I'm actually using the Librarian model as a Captain, though, for now. But I suppose by using that model, most people I play against will be lenient and allow me to choose to play him as a Librarian or a Captain. Versatility!

Nice. We gonna see any morlock-esque terminators?

They aren't planned to come soon, but if I do any Terminators I will either go for something Morlock-esque, or one of the Forgeworld variants, as they are nice models.

Cool modeling. I wish i had got into the hobby while i was at Uni. especially as i was in Nottingham. Sub'd keep up the good work.

I've been playing (in a loose sense of the word) since I was 9, but I've only recently started putting this much effort into my projects. If you take more time on a model, it's longer before you have to buy another one!

Yeah that's true, i do tend to take more time making them now, as i don't have a plethera to paint. Saying that i do have some vehicles in the works. And all your awesome adornments do inspire me.

Look what's arrived! 6 Ravenwing bikers from the Dark Vengeance box set (eBay and that), to convert into a bike command squad. I also have the banner and apothecary bits from the Dark Angels Ravenwing Command Squad to add to it. Exciting times, now to slice off the iconography.

The pose is cool, and he looks clean and crisp. I can't comment on the shading, as the artificial light bleaches it out. (i have the same problem myself)

I've found that a lot. I plan to greenstuff him flaming something with his right arm, like the badass he is.

Update: I had my first attempt at magnetising, so all of these Sternguard (or Tactical Marines, depending on what I choose) with a Rhino incoming. I am waiting on some more Airbrush Primer from Vallejo to start on the weapons and the Rhino. Anyway, here are the pictures:

The bionics in that squad are great, they look really natural.

They are much better than the Necron legs, but, unfortunately, also a lot more expensive.
