I like playing with fun lists, and as a Tyranid player most EVERY list is fun until the new dex. My wife however, is a vengeful and angry player and is working on a meta list. These are all owned models, and the current list.

Farseer (Sometimes Spiritseer for cheaper HQ)

Wave Serpent w/ Scatter Lasers, holofields, shuriken cannon +5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent w/ Scatter Lasers, holofields, shuriken cannon +5 Dire Avengers
Crimson Hunter w/Exarch, Brightlances
Fire Prism w/Holofields

I feel like this is a list that could be way more powerful at 1750 with Pathfinders added in and buffs all around, but I just surprisingly slayed it upstairs with my 40 gargoyle/flyrant/dakkfex/mawloc/trygon/tervigon list. So how can we pump it up to be a bit more frightening against all comers?

Well she isn't really optimizing at all. Typical competitive eldau don't include the fire prism or crimson hunter. Needs more wave serpents. Warp spiders optional but always good, and wraith knightwar walkers are solid. Fire prism good, but one isn't

The Hunter has been responsible for a lot of death, Im surprised its less commonly used.

Depends. Is she tailoring the list to fight yours or a list she can bring without knowing who she is playing?

I personally dont like the wraith knight, you can see my reasons why in the thread asking about taking 3 knights competitively. I personally take 2 fire prisms for my heavy slot, I probably would take none before I took just 1 though.

Does she like the tau? cause eldar is stronger on its own imo.

No warp spiders they are a waste of points. Take Swooping hawks they cause more damage and are a more of a headache.

For eldar id drop the prism and crimson hunter for a squad of warwalkers and vaul support battery. and put the farseer with the battery. Also for now until you get more broadsides id just drop it. You are giving off an easy KP.

Warp Spiders and Swooping Hawks have different jobs to do - neither are a waste of points.

How are warp spiders a waste of points? A model with bs4 S6/7 two shot gun that moves 2d6 +6 in the movement phase run and shoot with fleet in the shooting phase and 2d6 in the assault phase and 3+ save all for 19 pts a waste of points? They are the fastest infantry in the game with s7 weapons against vehicles...

Farseer needs a jet bike in order to cast his actual powers. Spiritseer is cheap but should be taken to make Wraiths troops which she hasn't no neither HQ option is pulling its weight.

Competitive lists are all about efficient spend of points. That means you want to get maximum value out of any points you spend.

The Serpents are good and efficient. Generally you'd want more Serpents with troops in. 10 guardians are also a decent choice for just 25 points more or the Wraith guard from above. Generally Serpents work best when there are 4 or more of them.

The CH is not bad but you have to kill all interceptor before it comes on otherwise it dies when it comes on with only AV10. Against Tau this is nigh impossible. Against anyone with a quad gun you're probably spending the entire first turn concentrating your long ranged firepower on 1 quad gun. This is not a great idea to protect just 1 CH. So you need more ranged Firepower that can hurt T7 3+ save and preferably an Autarch to help hold it in reserve.

As others have stated Fire Prisms work better in pairs or more. This is true of basically any battle tank. You need duel threat to make your opponents target priority difficult and redundancy encase something important dies early.

All the crisis suits are a mess. It is inefficient to fire a missile pod at AV13-14 for hopefully obvious reasons, likewise it is a waste to fire a fusion blaster from 30" away. So the jobs and idea ranges of the 2 weapons you have are incompatible. Take 2 of the same weapons with Crisis teams always same for the commander. Whilst twin-linking the Bs5 guy instead of a Bs3 guy is frankly bizarre. Crisis teams need to have a defined role. You need think about what your list is missing and use the Crisis team to plug that gap. Though in this list as they are bodyguards they should probably just be dropped (or take the Enclaves supplement and make them troops).

That leaves the commander with no real defined role either. A Mark'o commander isn't a great option as the Eldar can't benefit. So a cheap Buffmander is probably what you want. Give him no weapons just MSSS and C&CN and join him to the Riptide for a twin linked ignoring cover Riptide

The Riptide is also a mess. The VT is rarely worth it on him as he's not efficient AA even with it. EWO is practically mandatory though and anyone not taking interceptor on their Riptide is making a mistake. Ion in most cases is the better weapon and justified his price tag much better than the underwhelming HBC.

Firewarriors should not be taken in units greater than 9 unless you're attaching a Fireblade. With the rest of the army being mobile I don't really see how Firewarriors fit in at all. Kroot would seem a better fit or just take the minimum 6 man unit as a tax (and start them in reserve).

Broadsides should ALWAYS have HYMPs they are amazing and again EWO is an auto include. Max missile drones are also advised as they are ludicrously good for their points.

warpspiders are NEVER a waste of points. while i dont take them in every list nowadays, they are always either good to freaking crazy amazing.

Taking 2 units of x3 jetbikes would help scoring, x4 waveserpents with x5 avengers, x2 crimson hunters, x1 5 warpspiders, 2 units of x3 war walkers with double BL all comes to a grand total of 1467pts and gives you 6 troops, plenty of AA, Enough AT to sink a land raider and anything after that is preference.

Warp spiders are one of the best units in the eldar codex.

Well the trick with Warp Spiders is to not over to do. I mean I generally only run 26 Warp Spiders in my 1750 and never more than 30

Lots of great advice so far, especially you Flingitnow.

For the time I'd like to work with models we have, we have 10 Wraithguard and Swooping Hawks, although I hardly ever see these in competing lists. Is it consensus that the Crisis Bodyguard should go altogether or can that unit be set up to serve a better purpose.

Riptide should be Ion + Interceptor and keep Stims, yea?

Less Firewarriors, though we have no Kroot ATM. Keeping them as a tax and reserving them is smart, although Im worried they would be getting to any needed objectives to hold them.

Over the next few months whatever purchases needed can be made, but Id like to make the most out of what we have as well.


She has used Spider proxies before and loved them (My Tyranids hated them) so is it time to give in and get two boxes of them?

I feel bad about the Crimson Hunter...I basically sold her on it, so Id hate to see it set aside but for max killing power we may have to. I also need to Ebay a Wave Serpent turret to convert the Fireprism we have if need be.

You really should buy warp spiders, they are amazing. Make sure you magnetize the turret on that fire prism so you can still use it as such, fire prisms are a really good unit when run in 2's along with more wave serpent hulls.

I cant give you any help tau wise i dont play them but i do know eldar are better alone so eventually work towards that unless she likes tau too. The hunter is fine, it can work well, usually you want more than one and as was said you have to change your gameplay to make sure it doesnt die to skyfire/interceptor it may not be the most competative but if she likes it and it works for her then why not keep it.

I run my warp spiders anywhere between 5 and 10 per squad and 1 or 2 squads, they are super awesome. lots of shots high str, pseudo rending, ridiculous movement with battlefocus and warp generator.

I run my spiders in 2 x5 man squads, to deepstrike behind enemy tanks and shoot into the rear armor.
