This has come up a few times before, in our local group. When a situation comes up, such as First Blood, or even kill points in a Purge the Alien match. That to get the point we have to kill off the entire platoon, not just say a Heavy Weapons team.

Is this the case for sure?

First Blood is for the first unit killed, not the first Force Org slot.

A platoon is made of units. Killing a unit qualifies for First Blood, so any would do, including the heavy weapon squads

This is how i also thought it works, the IG player argues otherwise. I guess i need to get ahold of his codex to see how its worded before he will believe it.

And if the IG player doesn't believe you (despite page 3 and 109 in the BRB) then ask that he too treat platoons as single units. Coherency, firing at the same target, and ofc everyone runs away for one failed Morale check.

edit: and scoring, now that I think of it... a unit can only hold one objective at a time.

The IG codex is pretty clear that even though they are all taken as one force org, they are separate units in ALMOST all regards. They are treated as one unit for purposes of reserves.

i take it the OP means heavy weapons squad instead of heavy weapons team?

Does this same IG player argue he gets first blood if he kills one combat squad of a Marine player?

For the record, he DOES gain first blood for doing so, but the same logic applies to his own guys.

Or just killing the Rhino for that matter.

Lol Is he trying to state that you have to go through his entire Heavy Support section before you gain First Blood?

I take it the OP is talking about a heavy weapons SQUAD and not TEAM? I ask because you can kill a heavy weapons team out of a squad and not get first blood. You have to get rd of all three teams or in the case of a different type of squad, the rest of the squad in addition to the team.
To say killingthe heavy weapons team gives you first blood is like saying killing the guy carrying the missile launcher out of a tactical squad gives you first blood. You have to get rid of the entire squad.

The Opening Post states Team but goes on to point out that the opponent in question demands they kill the entire Platoon, so I don't think people have made the wrong assumption here....

People do quite often say 'team' when they mean 'squad'... in the same way that we often get people asking about 'units' when they actually mean 'models'...

It's fairly clear from the OP that he meant 'Heavy Weapons Squad' rather than 'Team'.

True, I myself get terms muddled all the time....
