If nothing else because it looks like New Line (well the company that bought the master rights from new line in the first place) have been selling very specific licences to make stuff based on 'scale' (a great way to sell basically the same thing many times over) so GW can make 28mm minis and tabletop gaming rules, but Knight Models have the 35mm mini licence plus the various toy/action figure/collectable bust maker with their own stuff so If GW was to make a too small Smaug they'd infringing the terms of their licence it's possible they might be able to pay for yet another licence to release a mini-smaug but it would probably have to be a blanket 6mm (or whatever) one and thus really expensive

A FW Smaug would be interesting, even if it was horrifically priced. The dragon was the best part of the movie, perhaps the only good part. Say what you will about FW, but they can put out some top shelf sculpts when they want to.
Also, yes, the title of the second Hobbit movie refers to the damage done by Smaug. He is the one doing the desolation, not the one being desolated.

I think if we see anything with Smaug, it'll be terrain pieces with parts of him on it.

This.
The hobbit has got to be a money losing project, right? They can't be making as much off of it as they would a Necron IA book with models, right?
It may be a money losing project usually, but I have a feeling that there are a lot of people out there who would want a 2x4 Smaug model. Just a feeling. I could see this being awesome, but it'll likely cost the same as a used car. (Not a clunker)

pffft. I'll just be using my D&D colossal red, save me about a grand from what GW or FW will likely charge, and its already painted.

Love this thread. Some random guy without a source says "Forge world is rumoured to blah blah" and people are all over it.
We should all share the rumours we've "heard" more often...

Yeah, and then we can also spam the n&r forum with them instead of keeping it in one thread out of politeness. Good idea!

Who needs a smaug model when you can put models on the table, place your pet iguana across the board, then throw down some crickets and watch the carnage ensue. Your models have just the same chance of killing the lizard as the dwarves do.

It's a rumour. And people are willing to talk about it.
What's your bloody point?

Gotta get that post count up somehow.
Might as well toss out 100 new Rumors threads that are either out of left field or compilations of bits from here or there.

Not really because the Desolation referred to is the wasteland Smaug created when he initially took over The Lonely Mountain. It is referred to in the maps accompanying The Hobbit book.

The Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain would probably disagree with that evaluation...

While a 28mm sized Smaug would be impressive and a miniature-making feat in and of itself, it would be incredibly unwieldy and difficult to game with.
Also, if Smaug is pretty much impervious to damage, why bother gaming with him? What would be the point?

I'm sure there will be a special rule for the accompanying Bard figure that allows him to successfully cap the big ol' lizard.
