So with forgeworld being allowed officially, My eye has been turned to the humble siege dreadnought. The more I think about it, the more I want one of these in my lists! it's a dread with a flamestorm cannon (str6 AP3) and a heavy flamer built into it's siege drill, so it's putting down two high strength flamer templates. it comes out really cheap to deploy with a drop pod, so do you think these guys are worth it?

"Yes, and I'm tired of thinking otherwise."

I don't know how much it costs for the dred+pod. But that sounds like a reliable way to suicide-wipe a a squad (or even 2) off the board. Can't hate too much on that.

Unfortunately, I play Salamanders, so I'd think I'd rather be using slightly less scary (but twin-linked) flamers.

It definitely has potential though. What book is it from? I might want to check it out.

You can find it in the new IA vol 2. The big problem is that you can only take a Lucious Drop Pod not a regular one... On a side note You can also give a Chaplain Dreadnought a Flame storm Cannon... And that thing is a lot better in close combat.

Carcharodon Astra, by the Emporer it is willed.

I dont think it can take a normal pod. Army builder lists itnwith dreadnought pod only, and that is quite expensive. If it can take a normal pod, it isgreat, if not, it is fairly mediocre

The siege dread doesn't appear to be able to take a drop pod. though i has the older IA book. im sure the new IA v2, 2e has it.

Though the Lucius Pod is more expensive, if I've read the rules correctly the dread is not forced to disembark the round he arrives.

Since it is open topped, the dread can shoot out of it, but since he's still technically embarked, your enemy will have to shoot and destroy the pod to get to the dread

This will result in 3 AR 12 Ablative hull points.

Plus, if the pod survives, it is an assault vehicle and will allow the dread to come charging out and assault on round 2.

Not to shabby for 65pts

Though my vote is for a Contemptor Mortis over the Siege Dread. (2x Kheres, CML, in the Lucius pod)

Hope that helps
