Hi guys! I'm a regular 40k guy and I love sci-fi stuff. I was wandering if I should get started playing warmachine? Is it fun for a player like me who loves blowing stuff up? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Yes. Do you like the idea of slamming a gigantic steam powered robot back through the air, with it coming apart in a spray of gears and oil upon impact while your own machine lets out a shrill steam blast of victory? Do you like the idea of ghostly hordes of hell demons cutting down lines of stalwart knights, only for them to rise up through the power of prayer for one last swing of their blessed weapons? Do you like the idea of a deadly killer teleporting across the field to where an enemy general previously thought themselves safe, and blasting them away with his pistols? These are things that I remember from the past 4 or 5 games that I played/watched on youtube. It is a really fun game with a lot more to it than 40K in my opinion. Want that Tyrannofex to charge into the enemy? Wait, you have a hormagaunt between the two of you? Well too bad. Want that warjack to charge into the enemy, but you have an infantryman in the way? Well too--wait, no, not too bad, he can just trample over the stupid blighter and get on swinging into the enemy who so desperately wants to eat hammer.

They are interesting, they have some sneaky units (including one who can shoot through walls with their crossbows) and some brutal combat units (dawnguard sentinels in particular, solid infantry with powerful attacks). Their warjacks (the big machines) have a bunch of tricks, which include bursting into flame, slamming the enemy around, stopping the enemy giving out orders, denying the enemy their magic (I think, can't remember exactly on this one), and stuff like that. They also have forcefields, which is unique to the Retribution army. However they do tend to be a bit easier to scrap than the warjacks of most other armies once their shields are down, because they lose some of their special abilities. They are also angry elves, as opposed to wise elves, or noble elves, or gradually dying elves, or tree elves, they are angry. Their goddess is dying and they think that if they murder all the human magic users, she'll get better (suuper over simplified and it ignores a lot of the other factions, but that is a rough description)

One big difference in Warmahordes vs. Warhammer (of either type) is the level of synergy between units and crazy options you can get. In Warhammer, you find which unit does the most for its points and you take lots of them. Anything you take typically does one thing and that's all it can do and will probably only interact with the armies on the table in one way. For instance, back when I played at least, a Tau Broadside sat back and shot a massive laser at something. And that's it. Every turn it sat in the back and shot something. There is some static synergy in some armies (basic buffs, flat things that get applied, or filling in holes), but next to no fluid synergy or gameplay. You can generally look at two armies on paper and accurately imagine the overall flow of battle assuming average dice rolls and adequately competent gameplay. Very static game overall.
While there certainly are some similarly dedicated units, Warmahordes tends to be much more fluid not just in synergy but also turn-by-turn play. The interactions available during each game are typically far more flexible than in Warhammer. Further, always having warcaster assassination being a win condition adds an edge and leads to some remarkable flexibility in tactics and play. I have applied and received some warcaster kills that seemingly came out of nowhere, sometimes while both armies were still alive and healthy on the field.

There are many games that can satisfy your urge to blow things up. 40k and Warmachine don't play similarly (for good or for ill, ymmv) and the majority of Warmachine armies have a fantasy or pulp/Victorian Sci Fi feel. You didn't specify your flavour of sci fi, so this might be up your street. Retribution and Cyriss have some more advanced technological aspects.
I think you should consider if you are drawn to the models or have a player base locally, or if you can start one up yourself. If there are local players maybe watch a few games and ask for a demo. Failing that contact your local Press Ginger, more details can be found on the Privateer website.
If you're drawn to the game then go for it, but there are a lot of wargame options if you enjoy mass destruction.

I should note Warmachine is a lot cheaper than 40k to start. For about £15 you can make a 15pts to play a few games and see if you like the game.

I will say yes as someone who is also interested in starting and recently watched a demo at my FLGS. I liked the smaller "warband" style of game and how it encourages tactics (although there wasn't a lot in the demo game) versus picking the biggest, baddest unit and having them stomp everything else.
I have recently turned my attention towards Kings of War which is like WHFB but I am also considering starting out with Warmahordes as there is more interest in that and some of the figures are pretty nice. Price-wise it can get as expensive as GW if you buy different units for your collection, but the startup cost is much much lower and that's a big thing.

The last time I pressed a ginger, I was slapped and there was a sexual harassment lawsuit.
