I was just thinking how dakka doesn't have a dedicated thread to discussing football/soccer, so I thought I'd make one.
Despite me being born and bred in England, by English parents, I've always supported Celtic, and I don't keep up on current football that much outside of the Scottish Leagues, other than what I pick up from friends and such. So yeah.

Celtic eh? I'll meet you outside the pup in ten minutes for fistycuffs...
Nah, I come from a Rangers supporting family (well my sister supports Celtic, but she's ginger, so she has to), though personally I don't follow the game much. Rugby's more my thing (I live right by the Glasgow Warrior's playing field), in that when a player falls over they get right back up with minimal winging (otherwise the other guys are likely to give him a few digs and tell him to man up).

Eh, the players are generally pretty good at not diving in the SPFL, it's usually the leagues like BPL and la liga which are full of it.
I do miss Rangers in the first division, I want more Old Firms

If I were to support any BPL team, it'd probably be southampton; you have Boruc and Wanyama, I love those guys
I know how Boruc has been playing (hah ), but how's Wanyama settling in?

damn it, one of you change your nicknames
and yeah, if you watched the Celtic 2 vs Barcelona 1 game, Wanyama was not only the goalscorer, if it weren't for him we'd have probably conceded at least a few more too
also, Forster was godly in that game, definitely deserves to play for england. Decent when he's just playing in the league, but in the spotlight he goes insane
and yeah, Ambrose sucks. Luckily Niel Lennon brought in Van Dijk, so our defense doesn't entirely rely on Mulgrew all the time.

I really dislike Van Dijk for that last game against St. Johnstone: not only did he embarrass us with that goal he then fouls Stevie May but doesn't get called on it (Typical old firm 'luck')

a) that goal was hilarious b) didn't see the foul, but from what I've seen Stevie May is really good

hmm... yeah, I'd probably have given the penalty. Stupid decision for Van Dijk to make, he probably could've just cleared it without having to risk it.

Bit of a shameless bump, but what do you chaps think about the whole Moyes - United debacle?

He has had a better start over his first thirty games than Ferguson and Busby; the problem is in modern football (More specifically the BPL) there isn't much patience with managers.
And Saints last game against Hearts what a clusterfeth

yeah, I did hear that statistic. I do think it's just the impatience and the more media attention the game gets. Plus, I think fans are just used to seeing Man United being top dog, and now they're trailing it looks bad compared to what they were.
Didn't watch the game, what was the score?
and who do you think would be a good choice, transfer-wise, for Man U?

Saints game finished 3-3 but we finished with 9 men on the field and our LB in goals (Alan Mannus decided having a fight was a good idea when we had no subs left)
United imo need a solid CB and another playmaker in midfield to complement Carrick

probably not the best decision a goalie's ever made
also, I'd agree with playmaker, but Man U still have Vidic- he's not been playing very well, but when he's playing decently he's very solid.
edit: just realised with the transfer rumours around Mata, Man U might also be thinking of getting a playmaker...

Well United sign Juan Mata from Chelsea for £37m Link That's a playmaker signed: now they just need another CB to pair with Vidic and they're set as long as RVP and Rooney are healthy
St. Johnstone also sign the infamous Chris Iwelumo (Looks like Stevie May's replacement who will ost likely leave in the summer)

So bit of a topic change, I was talking to a friend about underrated goalies. Any suggestions?
Personally I'd say ter Stegen from Borussia Monchigiveuptryingtospellthis, (slightly biased here) Fraser Forster from Celtic and Artur Boruc of Southampton (yes, he does make stupid mistakes, but on his day he's world class), Al-Habsi from Wigan, Diego Alves of Valencia and Tim Krul of Newcastle.
...yes, I do love my goalkeepers.
