So I am a GK player with Inquisitor Coteaz at the head of my army (It is suppose to be a custom Inquisitor from the Ordo Malleus of my own thought but I play with Coteaz rule set because he is that good). Anyway, I recently added Eldar allies to help compensate for some of the GK's weaknesses and have been trying to come up with fluff reasoning for why they would be allying together. Well, my original plan was that the Inquisitor and Farseer from the Ulthwe met in a particular rough battle against a daemon infested planet and gained a mutual respect for each other to the point of forging a pact to use each other in both their efforts to destroy Chaos. The Eldar were going to be as I said before were going to be from Ulthwe since out of all the craftworlds, they are the ones with their proximity to the Eye of Terror to have forces of Eldar zealous enough to ally with the Inquisition and the Grey Knights to defeat Chaos. My friend then suggested something interesting, why not paint the Eldar in roughly the same color scheme that the my Grey Knights are, in silver. I liked the idea, I would have my Eldar be silver in all the places the normal Ulthwe have the bone white. To justify this and still have them be Ulthwe (I really like that craftworld), these are a particular sect of Ulthwe Eldar obsessed with purity and cleansing of Chaos to done the silver color in order to represent their purity, which goes with the GKs reasons for leaving their own armor unpainted and hence a mutual respect between both armies. The Farseer after making the pact with the Inquisitor, also found a particular shrine of Fire Dragons, the Silver Flame Shrine that has similar attitude and armor scheme as the other Eldar.

Now from what I know, this would make sense in the canon even though I do know that the Il-Kaithe would probably make a little more fitting for this purpose but I don't like their color scheme as much and making them fit in silver in their purple and green would be a bit more challenging even though, I could probably do the green and silver and it look pretty good, I just wanted to bring this to the Dakka community and see what you guys thought.

Imperials have been known in the past to ally with Eldar against a common enemy, but those alliances rarely last more than one battle.

I have always read that the Inquisition and the Eldar have a bit of a different relationship than the "normal" Imperial since the Inquisition has different motives and some have had reported a longer relationship with the Eldar. We know Ravenor had a working relationship with the Eldar so he couldn't be the only one especially if two parties are overly zealous in destroying Chaos.

It's not so much the Inquisitor that would be an issue, it'd be the GK, since the Eldar are magic-using xeno witches, and probably having truck with the daemonic.

Do the grey knights have problems with "magic"? (all of them are psykers, after all)

Only fluff case I can recall at the moment of Grey Knights and Eldar interaction was when they purged a craftworld of daemons and then they called up a craftworld to come pick up some soulstones before Slaanesh came back to get them. Still, that's a fluff case where they were on the same side, at least.

They certainly do if it isn't them using it. Only they have the purity to withstand the corruption of the Warp... the Eldar created Slaanesh.

You can see how that might cause some awkwardness, I'm sure.

I think there was a short story about some GK that were hunting a daemon on an eldar craftworld.
*Spoilers for Ghost Halls*

Spoiler:
The GK, after defeating the daemon, stood over the soulstones of the Eldar. The Eldar then arrived at the craft world and began to yell at the GK captain for being on their craftworld. The captain, apologizes and gives back the soulstones. The Eldar are quite shocked but are very thankful that their souls tones are safe.

Apparently, this comes from a BL short story called "Ghost Halls". The craft world isn't named (from what I heard) so you could replace it with your own craftwrorld.

With the allies matrix, it has the Eldar as Allies of Conveyance for both the Grey Knights and the Inquisition. The Grey Knights having access to a bigger knowledge base about Chaos, to me, would know better than to just automatically to shoot an Eldar and realize that they are fighting Chaos as much as they are. Also, they are under the command of the Inquisitor and as such, follow his order whether they disagree or not. And as SkavenLord pointed out, the Grey Knights have shown that they have a certain respect for the Eldar and are the blind faithful xenophobic Imperial much like the Inquisition is.

Both Eldar and the Ordo Malleus hate Chaos. Makes sense they would ally for a short while at least.

This was my first main line of thinking, I just didn't want my whole thing of wanting the Imperium and the Eldar to just get along to cloud my judgement.

AoC seems fitting. If it were not for That Thing Over There, they'd be killing each other.

Respect them all they like, but everyone knows the Eldar are fickle, and would happily murder an entire army of GK to save just one Eldar life.

The same could be said of the GKs. They wouldn't think twice about murdering all those eldar to save a brother.

There definitely is are huge xenophobic tendencies on both sides of the Imperium and the Eldar but they have also shown that they have a capacity to work together in face of a greater threat like Chaos and Necrons which is what is the spirit of the army I have built with the Inquisition and GKs allying with a small sect of Eldar dedicated to eradicating Chaos. Both sides are willing to put down their xenophobia in the context of destroying Chaos which is why the Ordo Malleus is my favorite out of the three major Ordos.
