So I started 40k in August with Necrons making a warrior spam army, and now I want to start working towards an Ork army, but I'm not quite sure where to go with it. I'm mostly in it for fun, so stupid army ideas are welcome. I know I want to avoid painting 100+ ork boyz, so I would appreciate ideas that aren't model heavy.
So after reading around about Orks, I think I want to try something like this, but I'm not positive. Its the Dread Force.
Old Zogwort - 145 pts
(I can't resist the power to turn someone into a squig)
Big Mek x2 - 70 pts (w/ Power Klaw) +50 pts
(Not sure what upgrades to get for these guys honestly)
Deff Dread x2 -(w/ Grots, DCCW, Rokkit) +60 pts 150 pts
Killa Kans x9 - 315 pts
(Not sure what to do here either, but if it's not obvious yet, walker spam lawl )
So in short, I'm just making an Ork army for fun and a bit of variety. I'm also open to Kill Team ideas (right now Ive just got 15 Armored or 27 Ork Boyz with shootas and a Nob) Thanks in advance for input.

Illegal list as you got 3x hq's and son, this aint fifth edd. Kanwall aint working any more ;(
Also as for not model heavy orks you be playing the wrong army, atleast sixty boys is needed these days preferly more, then again you can go with nob bikers as troop along with a warboss.
In a kan list the big mek is best taken without the PK and with a KFF.

Oh man, i wan't paying much attention to that HQ deal, whoops. I understand that for a competitive army having a lot of boyz is a requirement. (boyz b4 toyz all that), but I don't care too much for making a competitive army, simply one that is fun to play and allows for customization.

Forget the wagons, replace them with forgeworld big trakks.
If you *really* like "don't press dat" then just roll a dice for each trakk and if you get a one, drive it into a wall yourself.
Orks can easily do low model count lists, its just our only really competitive builds all use tons of boyz. You can make some perfectly good middle tier lists using either bikers, Nob Bikers, or MANz as your main force, with few or even no boyz
We can also do an almost all dreadnaught army... it really, really sucks though, so be warned

I was actually looking a little bit into using a lot of vehicles. So would I be able to make a reasonable army out of a few squads of bikes and a couple of trakks? I dont want to end up doing what happened with my necron army, and just getting models that work out well on their own with no real idea for an army build. Like I said, I'm still fairly new to this, and I just get so stuck creating an army list. Also, what about deffkoptas? How well would they work with a bunch of bikers?

I started Necrons in May of 2011 and am now working on an Ork army as well (Go Xenos!)
I'm doing a Trukk army
Brief Army List:
Warboss on a Bike
Nob Bikers (as troops)
2 by 12 Shoota Boys in Trukks
3 by 11 Choppa Boyz w/ PK Nob in Trukks
2 Dakka Jets
3 Deffkoptas (just because I have the AoBR models)

Kanwall isn't optimized, but it can be fun.
The key to kanwall is picking the right armaments
Big Mek with kff
Then you have your deff dread as a troop. DD cannot shoot so don't try. Skorchas or ccws only. Also he is going to die fast so any other upgrade is a waste.
Then you've got 9 kans. The best gun they can have is a grotzooka, but that is expensive. So in each squad put 1 to 2 kans with a big shoota out front. Big shoota is cheap, and pretty good.
Then you've got to fill out your army with something to draw a little firepower away from the kans. I see 3 main options.
1) meganobz in a trukk
2) deff koptas
3) warbuggies
I prefer them in that order.
Imagine you want to incoperate the old zogwort. He might work with meganobz in a trukk so long as you let them tank all of the wounds.
Then you need 2 min squads of gretchin to hold objectives. Fill out the rest of your list with lootas, and I think you would have a really fun, but not terribly competative list.
Here is that list in a 1500 point version
Old zogwort 145
Big mek ( kff, burna, bp, eavy armor) 130
11 lootas 165
11 lootas 165
4 meganobz (kombi skorcha)
In a trukk (reinforced ram, bs) 220
Deff dred (2 skorchas) 85
10 grechin 40
10 grechin 40
20 shoota boyz (2 big shoota) 130
3 kans (2 bs 1 grotzooka) 125
3 kans (2 bs 1 grotzooka) 125
3 kans (1 bs 2 grotzooka) 130

Meganobz are pretty cool, but with each one being 20 bucks, its a bit expensive for 4. Could I get 5 Nobz instead and make a painboy/cybrog squad or something? Or maybe fill the truck with Burnaboyz?
Other than that, your idea seems to be what I wanna try out. Thanks a lot in advance.

I love my Deffkoptas. Give them TL-rokkits, and wreck some vehicles! Then run away and get Linebreaker.
