hey dakka dakka!
well, third try's the charm I suppose.
tyranids were my first 40k army. just two and a half years ago I foolishly asked "what's that?" when my friend presented a hormagaunt.
and now, I have spent well over 500 dollars on the hobby.
I want to start a blog to show all of the work I put into my army, and to hopefully get some constructive criticism. I'll warn you now, my camera is poop. it isn't the worst, but it isn't good either.
I will update once every week or two, unless I run out of things to paint (VERY UNLIKELY! )
well, at the moment I'm working on painting up my turmagaunts (I HAVE GONE THROUGH THREE BRUSHES ALREADY!) BUT! I have a hive tyrant I can show you now.
as well as a pic of my bases ( gaunts! not for important models!

The one thing I love about tyranids is the amount of extra bits you get from each box, I have a trygon box full of spare parts. Do you have any other painted 'nids? to get an idea of how the colour scheme look on other models?
One more thing, if you haven't based your tyrants yet, some rippers scuttling past the tyrants legs might look nice; just a thought though.

Thank kronk I thought I had failed again.

I don't have anything complete, but I'l have a 16 unit of termagants done by Sunday. I also have some warriors but I haven't done the bases for them.
Good idea on the base, if I can get my scanner working I'l post a scotch of what I'm thinking.
Yeah, tyranid sets are awesome.
I gave most of the mawloc bits to a chaos friend to use as tentacles, i still have some cat fish "quills" that come with the kit, thinking of using them on a zoanthrope (if GW release a plastic model).

Hive tyrant looks pretty good! He might need an extra colour however, something to stand out. You mentioned this purple sludge river thing, that would look pretty awesome! So I'm thinking make some purple parts on the scheme of the tyrant? Since his skin is all nearly one colour, it would add a nice variation and a point of interest when looking at the details

I know it's all rather bland at the moment, but I'm hoping that that the sludge plus base in general should help alot.

If you want sludgy looking bases I have uploaded pictures of my Nurgle army which are walking through a greenish swamp (I am also waiting for replies on my thread ). I used layers of pva glue with a mix of the colour I wanted, watered down, then a gloss varnish over the top to make it look wet

Hi again dakka dakka, I have some new pictures. ok, so I have some WIP pics of my trygon, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS KIT, and pics of my hormagaunts. I'll warn you now thoe, my gaunts are painted really dark, and my camera is terrible with dark, so the pictures are pretty terrible .
But, on with the show!
Ah, and I'd just like to mention, I have sleep acknea, so when I wake up at 1-2 am, I usually work on my gaunts, hence them being painted so not-goodely.
I'm also writing a short-story (GENE STEALERS) so you can, not, look forward to that...

That red on the Trygons carapace has come out really nice and smooth, I like that, would be quite nice with some highlights. What are you planning to do with the brown?

just gonna wash the brown with drakhenoff night shade.

I was temporarily unavailable because of... Um... Complications with a mod.
I couldn't post on Thursday, BUT, you can expect a very Big update.

when I said BIG I meant BIG.
I've got a trygon, and not one but two tyrant guard.
lets start with the trygon,
this kit Is awesome, you get a ton of bits, and generally have quite a few left over.

and the tyrant guard,
this kit is, on so many levels, perr-fect. (makes more sense when cat woman says it)
I love heavy infantry, terminators, immortals (not so much), wraithguard/blade, stealth suits (don't worry, there will be none of THAT her )
and anything that makes you think "walking tank".
the tyrant guard, just, just, are perfect. they are absolutely beautiful (although me painting them does take a bit away :(. ) next, the shields, the curve is very exquisite, and not having eyes just makes them even cooler in my opinion. in fact, I'm seriously considering ebaying another and converting it into a prime.

I have gotten one genestealer painted up, pics attached, but cant decide how to base it, what do you guys think?

I'm usually not one for Tyranids, (unless they're green.) but I really like the Trygon and the Tyrant Guard.

I faught about it, and no. I almost got the exocrine but decided to get ten terminators instead. I now own twenty terminators.

update: my unpainted genestealers have been cut u- um I mean, repurposed into chaos spawn, so for now I haven't painted any more. but I do still have one that has a cool bat like head, which I am doing some moderations to and stuff. I have to say, it is quite satisfying to see that some people (even a very small number) like my painting.

really scary. If i were a guardsman i would run as farst as i could (not that it would help)

ladies and gentlemen, after what? nearly a year long break, I am finally breathing life back into my tyranid army.
