I've been ignoring FW as a result of GW. A mistake it seems as those models are gorgeous.

How do hey look any more over the top than the Gal Vorbak, though? Not to be argumentative, I'm actually curious because I honestly don't get it and I seem to be in the minority of people that loves the Possessed kit. They look like Space Marines that have daemonic appendages and fleshy growths on/coming out of their power armor. I'll grant that some of the heads are meh, but for the most part the kit is pretty great as far as I can see. They look like possessed Space Marines; what's the issue?*

*Other than the Power Rangers paint scheme GW gave the models.

My problem with the kit is that the part look like too much of a mismatch, whenever you put them all together
the FW one all blend together better and look like a more consistent mutation.

Yep. This is my main complaint/why I like the FW ones better. Also, the leg poses and faces are often terrible- many look like they're idiotically grinning while trotting/bouncing about.

Never understood how anyone thought that kit was ugly. It's a treasure trove of conversion bits and the models themselves aren't bad at all. Also, I don't think the Gal Vorbak will affect the sale of Possessed since they're on a different base size. Mutilators, on the other hand....

Nevermind, I just saw that possessed got a new kit, I had the older models in mind:

The newer ones look better. Not too brilliant, but definitely better. Still, FW wins hands down.

Technically this would be Forge World's mistake since I'm pretty sure they handle their books and video feed separate from the main GW body. And if the older IA books are any inclination, they've never had a good track record with proofreading.

Ha! Well spied, I didn't notice. Maybe they have a touch screen device or automatic spell correct, usually trips me up. It is though without a doubt the best looking primarch model so far.

Mortarion - again another miniature I'm not overly impressed with, and again designed by Edgar Skomorowski. I've loved all of the ones designed by Simon Egan, but Edgar's characters are very forgettable. For such a high profile line they should really make sure that their best designers are working on them.

EDIT - oh, and wtf is on the end of silence, a weird little miniature chainblade? on a massive scythe? Just looks silly.

The scythe should be more dynamic. I understand the idea behind the handles and the heritage with them.... But, he can literally only use it in one position and for sweeping arcs two handed with them. The handles should be more manoeuvrable, maybe if it was clear that they were in some sort of hinge maybe, just so it looks like he could use it the other way round.

Really? Just because there are handles, and he's holding them in that particular pose on that miniature, he's unable to shift his grip and grasp it by the snaith?

Uh huh.

I sorta agree with you. I think the paint jobs do the model no justice either - they just come across as scruffily painted rather than weathered.
However I must buy him!
Re the mini-chainsaw - again I agree. I will be filing this off or might swap out the blade completely with a scratch-built one.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Just one last thing to post, on the subject of the grip Mortarion uses with his scythe.

Yep, it's a relatively clumsy and not terribly efficient weapon, and would take a LOT of practice to use effectively.

Spoiler:
But, as Mair's compendium of the Nuremberg traditions of fencing attests, some of the fencing masters of Germany, at least, HAD codified ways to fight with it before the 1550s

If Mortarion's grip on his Power Scythe is where it loses reality for you, I'd recommend you not look at the Fulgrim Transcendent miniature when it comes out...

Love that Vulcan sneak peak, but the hammer could be bigger.

Yeah, looking at the model, I can see 2 areas on the handle of the scythe which look like they are grips also- I can imagine Mortarion shifting his grip on the scythe at a pretty amazing rate when required, being a primarch.

My jaw actually dropped, looking at those illustrations. Never pictured scythe-vs-scythe or how it would work. Thanks for that unexpected/informative post!

When I first read that Paulus Hector Mair included a section of fighting with scythes in his books, I expected the battlefield version, where the blade was mounted as an extension to the snaith, like so:

I was quite surprised that the actual weapons depicted were "agricultural style".

Yeah. The other variant is basically just a variant on polearms, but 1 on 1 fencing with agricultural scythes is pretty crazy.

It's something that I don't think happened...well, ever. Not for serious one-on-one combat. Still didn't stop the Germans from figuring out HOW to make best use of a heavy, clumsy "weapon".

I'm halfway minded to get the text which goes with it translated, buy an old scythe off of ebay, fit a wooden "waster" blade to it, and see how much of the use of it I can work out as a break from the more conventional longsword practice.

On a more on topic note, I need to start ordering the various minis of the character series, so that when I DO have the time to get to display pieces like that, I'm not ordering them all at once.

One word- Primarch. He'll be surgical with that scythe.

For those of you who don't get why there's a chain blade on the end, you should really go look at John Blanche's original artwork. It's always had one.

Sorry if this has been posted before but has anybody noticed the new cast for legion space marines? It looks like there is a bit more variety between head sculpts and chest pieces.

Now I'm curious if they are going to continue producing the old legion miniatures or consider this the new and improved version with multiple marks thrown in.

ForgeWorld General Info

Battle for Prospero
-Prospero is chronologically below Istavan.
-Prospero has been pushed back 1-2 years.
-Prospero is late because they need to do right by the four force. All the forces in the book are very unique with real challenges in rules and models.

-Vulkan is 2 - 3 months away!
-FW would love to do BFG again...but its a long way off and definitely an if.
-Don't expect Skitari anytime soon
- Expect other auxillary forces with future books, like Spire Guard for Prospero and Calth Defence (and Word Bearers cultists) for Calth
-They will never do Xenos in 30k. They say that all the time.
-Calth, Ultramar and the Shadow Campaign is likely next and may be more than one book.
-Mechanicus Knight Titan is in the works
-They've said they have reached about 50% of the series chronologically. Of the 14 years the Heresy lasts, theyre up to year 7-8.

Horus Heresy IV - Conquest

-Expecting Conquest by the end of this year, but likely not available at UK GD

-Will include rules for Knight Titan armies, Dark Mechanicus, a full campaign system and "toolbox" to create a lot of different games. Will also feature rules for Shattered Loyalist legions, different legions banding together after getting screwed by Horus.

-Book will also feature Legion Relics for lots of legions, including ones we've not seen. These aren't Heresy relics....these are relics of the Dark Age of Technology.

-The Dark Mechanicus won't be very different from regular Mech yet. Not enough time has passed for them to go full evil.

Solar Auxillary Army
-The new transport and Basilisk are for the Imperial army Solar Auxillary.
-There is intention to do female Solar Auxillia and Officers.

-They actually said this will be the least Mariney book of the entire series. They will be there, but won't get much new. Instead it will be Imp Army, Mechanicus and Knights taking centre stage.

And the final funny anecdote...
Someone asked in seminar 1 "I'm 50 years old. Will I live to see the end of the series". There was a few furtive looks between the writers and a lot of "ermmm...."

I'm only 37, so I hope I live long enough to see it all.

"Through the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see.
One chants out between two worlds: Fire, walk with me."
