So a death co dread gets an extra attack for each unsaved wound it causes if armed with blood talons. It rerolls to wound (almost always on a 2+ due to st7), and has ap3.
A 2 on the psychotroke effects means it hits the opponents unit automatically.
If this rare event does happen, that means it will be hitting automatically, has a 35/36 chance of wounding, then unless the opposing unit has a 2+ or invuln, automatically gets another attack... and this applies to every one of its 5 attacks, thus effectively automatically wiping out everything in the combat, even a 50 strong guard blob/30 strong death co/30 stong orks/nids etc. Even against a carnifex brood it wounds 8/9 of the time with each of its 5 attacks, thus getting another 4 attacks, getting another 4 attacks, getting another 3 attacks etc etc. This can't be right can it? I know its only got 1/6 of a chance of coming off but still...

You can do something similar with prescience. The hard part is getting into combat without being shot up.

Seems legit. Reasonably hard to pull off against something where it's going to make a difference, but nasty if you can manage it.

I'm having a hard time deciphering what you're trying to conclude here but;

The dred has 5 attacks
2 on Psychotroke = "auto-hit"
Wound on a 2+ at AP3
Reroll failed wounds
For each unsaved wound (0-5 : you aren't going to automatically wound .. even your re-roll can be a 1 and not w ound, and then there are saves on top of that (2+ and invuln, FNP rolls discounting the wound, any other special rules?)) you get an extra attack, so you will have 0-5 extra attacks.
End sequence.

I don't think you're going to get extra attacks off the extra attacks already gained from the special rules (thus adding attacks ad-nauseum)! I could be wrong, but I really don't see this scenario as being the case.

I do it with prescience anyway but still that is where the majority of the attack stopping rolls happen.

So you're not familiar with Blood Talons then? Because they do give an extra attack off an extra attack.

Rorschach9, Blood Talons do get extra attacks from the extra attacks.

There's a Xibit meme joke in there somewhere...

OP, yes this would be legal. Hard to manage, but legal.

You do get extra attacks off the extra attacks. Its in its rules. It has a 35/36 chance of wounding. That means you have a (1/36)^5 chamve of not wounding, that is so small you can pretty much discount it.

You are missing a few things.

First of all the inquisitor is not required to throw that grenade when his unit gets charged. If you are afraid of a 1 in 6 chance then don't take it.

Second, the 2 on that table also says the model is reduced to 1 attack MAXIMUM as it is flailing away in hysterical amusement. Which means he doesn't get the extra attacks, because that would be more then 1.

No, sorry if I wasn't clear, the dread is charging the same unit as the inquisitor, they are allied in this case, so the effect applies to the opponents unit, not the dread.

They are hit automatically by the dread in otherwords, with his full 6 attacks that regenerate...

The only codex I have for Blood Angels is the White Dwarf issue, so no, I'm not familiar with Blood Talons specifically as they aren't in there (at least not that I can find).

They are exceptionally nice on the rare occassion they get into combat... A talon dread attracts more firepower than a vindicator or flamestorm baal, both my go-to bully distraction units, by a loooong way. If it doesn't go down after its arrived it will start to gut a unit a turn.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."
