While writing up my generic character's coverage for Space Marines, (find it here), I stumbled across the power that is Command Squads with bikes and grav guns.

So I wrote a list (as you do)

Here is that list

Kor'sarro Khan
Moondrakkan

150 points

Command Squad
5 grav guns
Bikes

210 points

Captain
Bike
combi-grav
Storm Shield
Auspex Scanner

135 points

Command Squad
5 grav guns
Bikes

210 points

2x 5 man bike squads
2x Grav Guns

270 points

3x 5 man bike squads
2x meltaguns

375 points

2x Storm Ravens

400 points

TFC

100 points

So the army relies on scout to get its troops across the board quickly, and uses that huge 42" threat radius on the two command squads first turn to get rid of the most dangerous targets. After that, I with warlord and try not to lose to many bikes by turn 5 (killing as much as I can while playing conservatively.) The storm Ravens draw heat away from my bikers, but aside from tau I can't see many things taking these guys down when they turbo boost - a 2+ cover save is hard to beat when the wave serpents are gone.

The Flamer squad's there to hold in reserve as long as I can keep them there, or alternatively flame some pathfinders (I think two should be enough to knock out the average 10 pathfinders in cover.)

Anyway, thoughts?

Edit prices were wrong on some things.

Your a little short in anti tank. Only 2 melta guns to deal with them till the ravens come. Also I highly recommend a storm shield and artificer armor on the captain, helps the command squad survive much longer.

Heh.

I don't have the points for a storm shield and artificer armour on the captain. How would you go about making them?

Drop one of the captains combi gravs for a storm shield, otherwise I really like it! Oohing like a bit of Grav spam!

You sought to cower behind your walls, weakling? Instead, by the will of Khorne, you shall die behind them

Done and Done. A good idea, all 'round.

I added a thunderfire cannon in place of the bones bare 6th biker squad, good change or not?

Yeah, I like that. TFC's are really really good!

I have a similar list I'm building towards but haven't played yet.

Why are the TFC so good? I keep seeing that postd everywhere.
Are the Grav guns any good at anti tank? Don't they double up on hull points on a 6? I would think that would be good enough to drop the melta and maybe get flamers for hordes

TFCs destroy Hordes and they hit Vehicles on side armor. After you hit a vehicle with a grav gun, a 6 Immobilizes it. A second Immobilize= 2 Hull Points Down.

I like the list. Grav is actually not bad for AT purposes.
