I'm more (in this order):

Surprised that she would be capable of such candor.

Horrified at the reality of the fact that no one a part of that conversation bats an eye at the comment.

Hey, I don't really do 24 hour news outlets, so my first expectation is that it's been misquoted or misconstrued, which brought me to listen to it. Then it really gets sad.

Just makes you push your self back from your keyboard for a second and think, "woah".

yeah who really thinks she has her head on straight... OBS the whole discussion comes from a place of fundamentalist insanity and ivory tower world views

feinstein's a literal fanatic...

she wants to ban civilian gun ownership, and supports NSA domestic and international spying...

then its just more snowden bashing and propoganda about how the US spy factory doesnt actually do any spying "dont listen to snowden, hes a traitor, with no honour, :" ect ect

"nothing bad is happening with the internet or NSA spying, or loss of regulatory powers RE net neutrality, none of this matters, al quada, al quada al quada "

just ignore the man behind the curtain and accept that losing your privacy and gun rights is ok because it will be the new "law of the land"

Wants to ban all civilian gun ownership? Been reading a little too much Breitbart I see.
If you are making that claim based on this video:

You should know she is talking about the "assault weapons" that were prohibited from being manufactured and transfer by the Federal Assault Weapons Ban in 1994, not all the weapons ever. Which clearly didn't happen then and sure as hell won't happen now.

Oh, despite what you've been told, the collection of metadata is not the same as "spying" and it isn't and shouldn't stop. Bummer, dude.

What she is says is that despite our best efforts help their nations, Muslim extremists and anti-American activist still see us as the enemy and use the term "Great Satan" to disparagingly refer to the United States. The term was coined by Ayatollah Khomeini during the Iranian Revolution and it just kinda stuck.

her definition of "assault weapon" includes things with barrel shrouds, pistol grips, magazines, "that shoulder thing that goes up" and so on and so on,

her words, not mine, and she didnt say "assault weapons" she said, in multiple quotes she supports banning "GUNS" you say that particular quote is "out of context" but there are plenty more.

"Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe.
Dianne Feinstein"

other interesting things about her
"Feinstein was the original Democratic cosponsor of a bill to extend the USA PATRIOT Act. "

not really a champion of freedoms,

and yes, collecting so called "meta data" (which is just Orwellian double speak for data) is spying, and you are a fool if you think that all that is stored is "who called who". They fessed up to that only because they were backed into a corner. Even corporations can glean enough data off of you to direct market targeted adds based on your google/other searchs, online buying and browsing habits ect... you really think the NSA does LESS then that, or would just admit to it if it was doing more?

I've literally never heard the term before. That's why it caught me off guard. Interesting read though.

Well, from a technical point of view, this I DO know a thing or two about. I also don't see why it can't be "spying" anymore than Snowden can be a "traitor".

The metadata might not directly tell you much, but it's trivially easy to do all kinds of interesting things with it. Here's a Standford grad talking about it. Also, a thought experiment in identifying Paul Revere. In the private sector, these guys from Cornell University managed to de-anonymize Netflix data.

Security (or in this case, privacy, but they overlap interestingly in places) through obscurity falls apart the more information you can collect about an entity, be it a computer or a person.

There's also the question of whether we have any reason to believe any party involved that it's only the "metadata" they claim they collect.

Just to give you some sense of scale, the call center for the company I work for managed to store 4 months of phone calls (incoming and outgoing) on a single RAID array and software run on a single server. The call center took support calls 24x7, worldwide. The technology existed for us to do this in the private sector at least 6-7 years ago for technology that probably cost less than your car.

With colos in major telecommunication data centers, there's zero reason why such a project couldn't exist on a nationwide scale.

She has been quoted on saying that ,yes, she wishes to ban all civilian gun ownership. I could have sworn I had seen it somewhere. She sees the assault weapons ban as a stepping stone. If she had had it her way the proposed bans that were voted on a while back would have been far more strict.
