The reason why F2P games are so popular with developers and publishers seems pretty clear now.
Source
The methodology may well be a little dodgy (the data is gathered by simply asking the developers/publishers so there may well be some padding going on).

Sorry for the massive image.

Crossfire clearly deserves all that money.........

All I want to know:

where in the user license agreement for that "Game" does the developer reserve the right to kidnap your family and threaten to kill them if you don't spend all your money buying stuff from them? Because that's about the only way I could see it making the cash they claim it does.

Apparently, just not in the west as they shut down the servers a while ago.

Seems like bs.

Has no dota and dungeon fighter online is apparently shut down in NA.

Then again asian people are crazy.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

It doesn't.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Presumably because Valve didn't disclose its sales figures. Isn't DOTA still in beta anyway?

I dont know where those numbers came from but the value for World of Warcraft is unbelievably incorrect. Those figures would suggest that blizzard only has 1.2 million players world wide... They probably have more than that in Korea, I know they have more than that in the US, and they arent free to play so why is it even in here?

Oh perhaps the value listed is from character transfers and name changes and server transfers? If that is the case...then damn...

It more or less says so in the note underneath the "data". Interesting that they manage to move that much money on top of subscriptions. I certainly never felt the need to pay for any of their extended services or extra pets. Considering the still massive user base it's no wonder though.

As for Dota2, its proper release was only about half a year ago iirc and so might not have made it into the top ten yet.

WoW has around 8-10 million subscribers still. That would mean the average subscriber is only spending $20~ on microtransactions. That sounds really low to me, I knew multiple players who would spend at least three times that amount on character changes and transfers, but I suppose a lot of players avoid microtransctions all together.

The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy
