Gilboa’s Double-Barreled AR-15, The “Snake,” Makes its American Debut
By Nick Leghorn on January 17, 2014
When this rifle first came into the public eye, we were less than enthusiastic. It seemed like a gimmick, and to be honest that’s how it started — they needed a “show stopper” for a military trade show. But instead of just being an interesting engineering product, Gilboa is going into full production right here in the United States to put these on the shelves and in the hands of American shooters . . .
Since the ATF defines a “machine gun” as any firearm that fires multiple rounds with the pull of a single trigger, Gilboa is re-designing the rifle to have two individual triggers instead of the single trigger setup currently being used. We’ve been promised one will be on its way to TTAG command central for a test as soon as it’s ready, and we’ll let you know how it works.
In the meantime, imagine this: running a 3-gun stage with this double-barreled AR-15, Arsenal’s double-barreled 1911, and a side by side coach gun. Wouldn’t that be a thing?

Yes. It would be... a thing.

I wonder what the possibilities are for this to be a useful suppression weapon. Normally you've just got regular LMGs but its still only one barrel. 2 barrels might have greater suppression capabilities while also being on a smaller weapon.

I'm holding out for the version with no stock - pistol grips only and 5 inch barrels, for concealability.
Although it's going to be hard to find a holster that will also accomodate the two bayonets I plan.

You'll have to hybridize a sword sheath and holster. Any seamstress should do.

I'd go with a chain ala Black Templars myself. Weld it onto the gun so I don't lose it.

Well, holsters plural, because I've never seen a gun so meant to be dual-wielded before.
the shrouded lord wrote:The muzzles look ork-y.
That actually serves a theoretical function, sort of. You see them on door breaching shotguns - the serrations allow the gases from the gun to vent from the sides instead of blowing out your barrel. Of course, the only scenario in which that is possible - for you to form such a seal and hold it long enough for the barrel to give out - would require you to be The Incredible Hulk, and I daresay he does not need a shotgun when he goes a-breeching.

I'm all for the guy bringing this to the public and all but I am going to have to be "That Guy" on this one. It would be cooler if it were at all useful, what was the purpose? Can the gas system account for a hangfire or other malfunction or are you just throwing away good ammo/creating a dangerous situation? Someone please tell me there's a second magazine well and the mag on the right side of the gun isn't simply being held in the proper place by the cinch.

The purpose is to get around the law against automatic weapons by making a gun that shoots multiple bullets not with a single trigger pull.

I can see the point of this in a weapon designed to suppress through sheer volume of fire but does this add anything to a Carbine type weapon like the AR-15? Wouldn’t there be a major loss of accuracy?

Have fun clearing both magazine wells from different sides of the rifle, hitting that ridiculous bolt catch and generally maneuvering with a weapon that twice as large as it needs to be.
The double trigger is clever though.

No. This doesn't suddenly give you the functionality of an automatic weapon. Nowhere, nowhere, nowhere close to it. So circumventing that law could hardly be the goal.
