Be it poorly painted, bad on the tabletop, unlucky, or just other wise hate gathering, what is your favorite bad model that you actually use?

Interesting question.

There are very few of my models I’m not fond of. Even the drop pods, which I hate assembling, I don’t mind once done. In particularly large games, when I feel the need to put more then 4 tac squads on the table, the 2nd edition push fit marines come out. I’m a little ashamed of them.

From a “you suck, but I love you anyway” standpoint, it’s my old metal captain. He’s got a stormbolter and a power sword. I call it a relic blade, and give him artificer armor, so he doesn’t completely suck. But there are better HQ/wargear choices for the points.

Internet mindthink tells me I shouldn’t be using things like dreds, assault marines, chaplains, and all sorts of sup-par units. But I do, and have fun doing so.

I have an old tau crisis commander (the ones that were just regular crisis suits with two extra metal heads and some metal weapons/ support systems). Firt model I ever got, and he is currently missing a leg and half of one of thruster arrays. He is however my favorite model that I have, and I have actually written a background to why his gaks all dinged up and modeled the rest of my army around him (the back story is that it is an exploratory cadre with a small earth caste battlefield repairs untit that has been sperateed from the empire and is stuck on a planet that the imperium is trying to claim back, meaning many of my guys have broken stuff fixed with imperial tech.).

Buzzy the Vespid and his 2 friends. Somebody who doesn't play 40k bought me a pack of them for my birthday "because they looked cool and I know you play this game". To be fair I was kind of amazed the guy actually got the army right.

I assembled them but never painted them, and I think I may have played them in a game once. This was during 4th edition by the way. To this very day those three shiny metal vespids are sitting there on my "to do" shelf waiting for their turn to come forth.

My 3 warbuggies.

I love the idea of warbuggies, and the models, although old, still look pretty cool. I have fielded them a couple times, and they just get to shot down so fast. I really want them to do better, and keep trying to sneak them in to my lists.

My Railgun hammerhead. It always seems like I roll 1's to hit, to pen, or 1 on the damage chart. Used it the entire time I played 5th and only recently stopped taking it.

His entire run he has killed less vehicles than my gun drones.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous

Aesthetically, I think Lychguard are my favorite model from the Necron codex and they were pretty good in 5th edition, before their swords were nerfed to AP3. They're obnoxious because their wrists are really flimsy and one or two are guaranteed to break every time I take them somewhere.

Somewhat the same problem with wraiths, their whip coils are flimsy and their shape makes them something of a hassle to use/transport.

Anything with a meltagun on it. I should start keeping track of the number of successful melta shots I put out that actually cause damage, cause I know mine never do.... Im literally at the point of phasing meltaguns out of my army entirely since they never do anything useful!

Meltaguns should statistically be able to output quite a lot of damage. Have you tried threatening your dice with painting them pink?
