Some models I just had finished by the folks at BTP, granted it took about 6 months (I placed the order on June 13th 2013) but they look great! I payed $445 for them, in a 3/5 painting level. I got a $60 discount for being so late, and I got another $60 off for some trade ins I did, so I ended up paying $325 for them. If they can convince me that the next shipment wont take so long, I will definitely get another 2500 points or so of thousand sons/tzeentch daemon stuff from them over the next few years. Let me know what you think!

EDIT: SOME IMPORTANT NUMBERS for y'all to consider...

Model cost: 129.94
Painting cost: 123.89
Assembly Cost: 23.47
Decorative Bases: 11.61
Total cost: 288.91 for wages/supplies expenses
The other $95 I paid was their profit.

I got $60 off the 288.91 and $60 of what was the $155 profits payment, for a total of ~$325 out of my wallet.

No offence to you mate, But if I paid $325 and took 6 months to complete i would expect much better quality than what they have done.

That is not even close to $325 worth of work, There are comission painters on here that will cry at this.

Thank goodness, I didn't want to say anything since I've never commissioned anything, but that is a pretty low level of painting on the thousand sons. They could very well have painted the entire squad in under an hour.

As a low level commission painter myself,
It's not worth 325, maybe closer to 200,
that's just my opinion though.

Weird, they are for me too. They were working fine for a while. Not sure how to fix that.

It'll be an anti hot-linking measure. They showed up fine for you because you had the pictures cached from uploading them. No one else can see them because flickr is preventing hot-linking.

I'm by no means suprised by this low low low level of painting. BTP is a huge heap of disappointment time after time...I wonder why they are still in business :(

Well I guess if you're happy with them...

However I must point out that you can buy a "Pro painted" thousand sons squad of off ebay that is better quality for less than 100 USD

I was a little taken aback by the comments and thought they looked fine on the overview... and then I saw this more detailed pic and I'm like "yeah, I'm with the other guys here."

Big guy looks pretty good, though.

I'm assuming that price isn't only the painting but also the models themselves.

325 for those? Ouch. I'd seriously think whether you really want to give these guys more business. I think that for 325 and 6 months wait, models should be painted a lot better.

Keep in mind that the models are only 2 inches high or so, bloated up across your entire screen in 1920X1080. I'll look into alternative companies in the future but im not shutting the door on them, im really surprised how bad the response was to this.

I know that models when photographed can look bad, as the camera shows all the details. However in this case the head dress of the Thousand sons marines are very badly painted, you can also still see blue areas through the gold on the tops, the eyes have had absolutly no care to them what so ever, just a single blob of green, and the yellow on the head dress is what realy does this set, I have painted thousand sons before and even with my shoddy painting skills I can fill the lines in.

For a "level 3" job I would of atleast expected them to actualy paint to the lines. I dread to think what what a "level 1" mini would look like.

I can even see on one of the models they missed with the paint brush and got yellow on one of the blue stripes, And did not even bother to touch it up.

If I was you friend I would be contacting BTP and telling them to either sort out the models to a finished standard or at least refund you some of your money back.

Not trying to heap misery on you but I was quite take aback when I zoomed in on your photos, I'm a big fan of the Thousand Sons and looked forward to seeing your pics but for a pro job I'm not convinved you got your moneys worth.

I kinda circled where I found the painting most surprising, I dunno. I know that I can certainly do better and I'm by no means a good painter. If I was in your place I'd ask for some money back, it looks a bit rushed to me.

I agree with the others I'm afraid. They don't look too bad in the wide shot (although still not worth the money you paid) but zoom in just a little and it looks very sloppy and rushed.

I do a bit of commission work and although I'm no pro I would certainly have done a better job on those guys and wouldn't have charged you more than $200 either..

If level three is that expensive, I dread the price of level 6 or 7.

Looking at their site, level 3 seems to be the most basic, after level 2 (appearantly level 1 is not available). They say in the video that level 3 the miniatures look good from a distance, and they, honestly, do.

I think they delivered on what was discussed regarding the painting quality, although according to their site a commission takes 3-6 weeks, and only 1% takes up to 12 weeks. (So I guess 0.0002% takes 24 weeks).

I feel tabletop quality just doesn't need to be photgraphed at that large scale, as is said earlier, the overall picture looks great and will no doubt look good on the table. Just don;t zoom in.

Hey, as long as the OP is happy with what he got and knew the quality he would be getting, there really isn't a problem. Sure, the painting was a little expensive for the low-end tabletop quality. But all that matters, in the end, is that the customer is happy with what they got. It's just good business.

Still, I would've offered a steeper discount for that long of a delay...

Some answers this thread needs.

Was this price including the cost of the miniatures?

Why exactly did they have a 6 month delay? I'd guess is that yours is a relatively small (Quantity rather than price) order and it got pushed back for bigger projects. Which is unacceptable in my book.

Yes my project was pushed back for larger projects

yes the price includes the purchase and shipping of the models to the BTP facility as well as assembly costs.

To showcase the models that a company produced. Perhaps someone looking to buy services from BTP can look at this and help judge for themselves if they want to do business with BTP or not. I thought that was pretty obvious, but maybe I should've said something about that in the OP.

Also who doesnt like looking at models?

I'm not sure how the other painting studios work in terms of purchasing kits or what their set up is, but I wonder if the people decrying this as "expensive" have factored that in.

I think simply from your experience I wouldn't use BTP again for the delay. They treated your pretty poorly from a customer service point of view. On the plus side there are quite a lot of studios to choose from across the US, so you're in luck!

Plus if they charged you retail for the models then they are making 40% off of you as well since they probably have a retail account with GW.
