The person who took me hostage and keeps me locked up in a basement with stale bread and water forced me to play a game of 40k the other day. I screamed and kicked but he chained me to other side of the table and forced me to play against my will. I had an Ork army comprised entirely of Grots while he ran 6 Riptides. It was the most horrifying experience of my life. I've never had fun playing 40k...save me... save me...

Okay, on a serious note, I had a great game two weeks ago; IG blobs vs. Dark Eldar sailbarges at 1k. Pulled out a tight win, though had it ended one turn earlier or later, it would have easily gone to my opponent.

I always have fun playing wargames...otherwise I wouldn't play them.

Though that game re-highlighted much of the issues with the game and 6th in particular. My opponent felt the same, but I had a few brews and pushed lead around a nice table.

Actually it may be a long wait (two or three months, being optimistic) until my next game, but in the meantime I have an entire Inquisition army to paint and daydream about. That and perusing Dakka for rumors, stories, tactics, fluff chatter, battle reports and rage. One never gets tired of this.

There is plenty I don't like about the game, and I very much hope that someone else DOES buy out GW and shake things up, because I am sick of their boneheaded approach to practically everything. Particularly their repeated axing of promising specialist games, that could serve as excellent entry points for new players (and great games in their own right)... but I could go on forever about that.

Having said all that, despite the many issues, I enjoy every game. I think I've only had two games ever that I did not enjoy, and I've been playing since 2nd edition. Both were due to the opponent, not the game itself.

Also, I actually enjoy reading people's criticisms of the game and GW. I find it provokes thought, and I get value out of thinking up potential solutions even if they never happen or if I even post them. Many people just seem to take these criticisms as if they are a personal insult, though.

About an hour ago when my Nids got slaughtered by the black legion. Flyrant got vectored struck by helturkey, and then list his last around to a failed grounding test. Meanwhile almost every Aspiring Champ is blowing his had off with a plasma pistol. But it was ok. Deathleaper got all 2 of my VPs. Killed a squad and got line breaker.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Twice in the past month, first time playing against a super heavy tank, was interesting to play against even if we were tabled quickly. Was nice to have my Rangers spray the ground with Allied Space Marine brains.

Then last week proxying a Wraithknight with an Evagelion Unit, watching it get revenge for the death of my Farseer.

Toss up between Monday's game of 1500 pts of orks vs 2000 pts doubles csm nurgle and DA. Or Tuesday's game 1500 pts tzeentch CSM vs my nurgle daemons.

Almost every game of 40k is fun for me. If it wasn't why would I play it.

In most games, I actually enjoy playing. There are always the occasional games where you really didn't care for the army you were playing against because it is either just obsurdly made around one element. However win or loss I generally enjoy most of my matches, some of the most fun games I've ever had were losses

2008 I guess. I tried to like 5th and 6th, I really have. I arrange a game about once a month still, hoping that something would change. But it's all the same tedious bull, either I get tabled by a true power list (with no idea of what I could have done differently to prevent it) or I wipe out someone with a lolrandom casual list and again we both feel like there was nothing he could have done.

2007 was the last 40K game I played.

- Store I played at went out of business
- Didn't like the other stores in the area
- Moved to a new area
- 5th edition was released, which I didn't like
- 5th edition CSM came out which boned my army
- 6th edition was released, which I don't like
- 6th edition CSM came out which was worse than the previous version
- Prices continue to escalate, making my second choice army not worth playing.

I would not play a game I didn't enjoy. That just seems counter intuitive.

Of course, 40k is most enjoyable because you get to talk gak with your friends while you do it. I guess that element is missing for those who don't socialise well, but that's never been a problem for me.

At the end of the day, this can make any loss less bitter.

Maybe when I don't have to do all the driving to organise 40k games, I'll be able to do this too. Until then, beerhammer is off limits.

But, you said you had a tight game. I prefer the tightest game, to the must thorough victory. If I lose, but it could've gone either way, I feel like I've won a really nice experience in the process.

Nobody ever talks about the games they got smashed in (unless they're doom mongering) and nobody ever remembers the games they smashed through (unless they're not worth playing). They only remember the ones that came down to the very literal wire.

This is why I like my semi-competitive list, as opposed to my tournament list. I can beat most any army with my semi-competitive list, but against the most competitive armies, I will be getting lucky and I will be biting through my nails.

I had fun once. It was heretical.

(but seriously: two weeks ago when I visited the FLGS and said "40k with 2K list, go!")

Last Saturday I had a great game. My Orks vs some Space Wolves. 2k points.

I ran my triple Battlewagon list with nob bikers against his wolfy stuff. There was a landraider that I had to tank shock like 3 times for it to blow up, and a crazy wolf priest that used some World Wolf pyshich power that almost removed my two HQs from the game. But I denied the witch!!! haha. But really the opponent was awesome and everything was amicable. I dont thing we had one rule discrepancy.
It was also the first game I got to try out my dakkajet. It didnt do much but it was fun to fly it around and roll dice you know.

Haven't played 40k since we started bolt action in 15mm.

....so maybe a month or two ago. Small point game SM vs DE with a friend. It was fun. Despite my gripes with 40k I'll always hang on to it.

I like it better than 28mm. We just glue extra battlefront figs to pennies and voila...above average size bolt action army. Also I think you get more battlefield out of 15mm. We play on a 4x4 and it is more than enough. I'll start a thread on it soon.
