I love the models, but would like to stay super competitive... is it at all possible to field high amounts of these and win?

No, because of being hull pointed out. Unfortunately. AV 13 is better in this respect, but even my marines can handle several dreadnought equivalents. MCs are where it's at.

Pretty much the only semi-viable dread route.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

I'm building a Siege Vanguard Assault list.

10+ dreads.

But no pods allowed.

Still, 10+ dreads are hilarious!

I've run triple maulerfiend, triple helbrute before, and it's worked reasonably well.

The maulerfiends rush forward and take out whatever is good at killing AV12 vehicles. Supporting fire from noisemarines helps with this. The AV12 walkers go down pretty easily (grenades hitting on WS was an unnecessary nerf in my opinion), but once you start taking out the things that can reliably kill AV12, they start to really shine as the enemy looks at your clanking horde and thinks "whelp....I got nothin' ".

Footslogging dreads never work in regular enviroment - i mean even casual gaming. Ironclads in pods with hflamers are nice. Maulerfiends are good - but they're an exception cause they're so fast, ignore cover and have 5++ and ignore stunned-shaken on a 2+ iirc.]
Or you could go shooty but what's the point of paying 130 pts for 2 ac on a 12-12-10 platform?..

Even in last edition, when dreads at least were fairly resilient in close combat, this didn`t work, especially foot-slogging, which poor chaos are forced to do.

Dreads are cool-looking paperweights unfortunately

What does MC stand for?

Never mind, monstrous Creatures right?

Do Necron Overlords annoy you? Dreadnaughts stomp them flat and laugh about it.
That's the most I've got to offer on the topic.

1-2 dreads/Helbrutes are fine in a gunline hybrid list to protect the gun line. Str 10 is nothing to laugh at. If you give it a decent gun it can even sit in cover and even a 350pt DP would fear it.

They will work out sometimes and sometimes not so much, but they can be part of an effective list. They are just not autowin buttons in a list. Those tend to do the heavy work in a list, but also cost you the game when they go away.

Dreads/Helbrutes won't cost you the game if they die and can help you out in some matchups. For example they are great at tieing up Fleshhounds who infiltrate up to your face and want to assault your gunline.

Eye of Terror

I use 2 Chaos Contemptor dreadnoughts with heavy conversion beamers and twin linked lascannons. They are what I use instead of Defilers and get the job done better IMHO.

BS4 Str 10 AV1 Large Blast at a distance. Have used them to wipe out squads of Tau, Eldar, SMs, IG, etc. I will take them with a BL Sorcerer carrying the Eye of Night and that gives me 3 big strikes across the table in the first round (or second, when there's night fighting.)

They are AV13 in the front, so they are resistant to being glanced to death. They are not very big models, so it's not that big a deal to get them cover. I take them with MoN which also gives them It Will Not Die.

Expensive, yes. But they are also very effective.

pretty much an all drop pod list though

Iron Hands: AV13 spam x6 with a Master of the Forge.

Iron Hands Gun list with Gunner Dreads in Terrain

Ally in DA with PFG surround with 3 Dreads with guns. Same as above

Only ideas i can come up. Either target Saturation or Get them a save. Still kind of expensive way to get guns but it can work for some people. First option is my fav.

My silly walking wall of dreads list is:

HQ Dread: Ashmantle
Elite Dreads x3: Contemptor Mortis
Troop: Assault Dreadnought Talon (3 Ironclad/Siege dreads)
Heavy: 4 Dreads (not sure what variety yet, probably a couple of Ironclads and shooty dreads).

11 Dreads, with two troops in a Land Raider.

Competitive? Probably not. Fun? Probably.

Having actually played a dread-wall list, I can tell you that it is actually not even fun. They are slow, short ranged, low firepower and get crushed by MC`s and a lot of other stuff in close combat. It is a frustrating, poor and boring playstyle.
