Hi guys,

I mostly played WFB before this, so I'm kind of new to the 40K-thing. I've chosen Dark Eldar for my army because of the fluff and the strategy involved in playing. I'm about to order my first models and have composed an army list based on beginner-guides, the codex I bought and a few army lists I've seen. I definitely want to start with the battle force, it just seems like a lot of bang for my buck so the army I've composed is kind of based on what's in there. Can you guys tell me what you think of it? (I exported it from BattleScribe and removed all the points as per the guidelines. If the format still isn't correct, please say so and I'll edit my post)

Archon 135 points
Huskblade
Shadow field
Soul-trap

10 Kabalite Warriors 170 points

5 Kabalite Warriors 100 points

9 Wyches 188 points (Archon joins this unit on the raider)

Those ravagers are twice the price they should be.

I would really consider switching the wyches for a small unit of Incubi to run your Archon with, and also pick up combat drugs on your Archon. It could make a huge difference or a small one, but it's always a bonus.

Also, I'd probably drop your sybarite and try to find the points for blasters on both Kabalite Warrior squads. And an additional splinter cannon on your Venom.

You'll really love dual splinter cannon venoms.

For later purchases, get some trueborn with more splinter cannons and put them in venoms to watch tyranids melt

Oops! Thanks for the correction. Updated the list.

I've looked for blasters on the warriors in BattleScribe. Couldn't find the option so I figured I'd misread the codex. I'll try and squeeze them in.

I second adding a blaster to you kabbies in the venom. You can keep the kabbie raider full of splinter dakka for AI though.

Syrabites are generally wasted points. However, Ld9 helps when the raider wrecks or explodes(you will lose enough kabbies for an Ld check unless you got a pain token) so it comes down to risking loss, or wasting points better spent elsewhere. I would drop the syrabite to get a second cannon on your venom, as venoms all but NEED two splinter cannons.

It is OK to keep the hekatrix for a challenge chump, but if you want her to do anything besides die for the archon, take a venom blade. Cheap, but it should allow you to come out on top of a challenge against a rank and file enemy. I would probably drop the trix to get drugs for the archon. Archon can take a venom blade in addition to the huskblade(throw a plasma grenade if you want to shoot) so you can be effective against any target. Drugs greatly increase your ability to stick the huskblade(except on a 1, and 2 for the most part) but are well worth it.

Heat lances are generally good enough, and my personal choice to save points for my reavers. However, with spare points, spring for blasters as they are more effective at range, therefore less suicidal.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

People keep saying they loose heaps of DE to exploding vehicles but I personally find they die through HP attrition rather than actual explodes results
